A lot has happened the last few days and a lot of you are in the dark about what exactly is happening. I shall try to give you a general summary of events and what I've done to help mitigate the issue.
Recently, my Discord account was compromised after I fell for a malicious “try my game” scam that’s been circulating. The file I downloaded was designed to grab browser data and active sessions. It caught me at a bad moment, and I let my guard down. This proves it can happen to anyone.
When it happened, I unplugged my computer, went into my phone and did my best to suppress the scammer's actions. I saw the attacker attempting to message others, so I warned who I could, reset my sessions, changed my password, and ultimately chose to fully close my Discord account to prevent any further spread. Nuking the account was the only way I would be certain no one would get affected later once everything is said and done. My nitro subscription is hardly worth it.
Here's a rundown of what I did afterwards:
Isolated the affected computer and taken it offline
Removed the malicious file and scanned for malware
Changed passwords across my accounts (especially email, financial, and platforms tied to my work)
Enabled or reinforced two-factor authentication wherever possible
Logged out and removed all active sessions from my accounts such as Google, Discord, and more.
Secured my email accounts and checked for any unauthorized changes (Found a session in the backend, got rid of it)
Locked down financial accounts and contacted my bank as a precaution
I have spent 32 hours combing through everything and changing passwords. 8 hours when it first happened, sleep, then another 18 hours blazing through it all and finding every possible sites I used to change passwords, slept again, then spend further time scrounging up the remaining bits and pieces I may have missed.
At this point, the situation is under control and there is no ongoing unauthorized access. I’m continuing to finish up security checks and will be wiping/reinstalling my system to be completely safe. Whether it's windows or Linux, I haven't decided. Tired of fighting with window's operating system but clip studio only runs on that. Or at least supported on it.
Nothing on patreon got leaked out or caught in the mix. I made previous precautions to prevent that. I wanted to be transparent about what happened. The last thing I want is someone else dealing with this mess.
I’ll also be pausing Patreon payments for about 30 days starting Monday while I finish getting everything back in order.
Thank you for your patience and support. I really appreciate it while I work through the last of the cleanup.
