Honoring Our Elders.
So this weekend, I'll be taking a small road trip to go and visit with my grandfather for a few days. Mainly to offer some assistance with his wife, who has Parkinson's, but for both me and my roommate, its an opportunity to finally get out of the house for a bit and do something other than what we do at home.
Overall, I do love my grandfather, as he's a very good man and he's 80 years old. My mother came from a large family of 11 kids (10 of which are still living, one died as an infant), and out of all of the grandkids and great-grandkids, none of them ever go up voluntarily to see Grandpa but me. And if they ever do, which, again, is rare, they do it because they want to ask him for money and then skitter off back to wherever they came from.
The sad thing about all of this is that a lot of us as human beings just never take the time to show our appreciation to those who are older and wiser than ourselves. And if we do, then it's because our parents raised us right. In the furry fandom, one thing I see a lot of that goes around, is respect, for furs of all ages, genders, shapes and sizes. Even a group for the older members called Grey Muzzles. To me, that is really awesome to see that kind of respect going round.
If we all would just stop and think before we say or do something, then I think this world would be a much happier and safer place.
Thanks for reading! :)
