Canadian greymuzzle, lover of absurd humor, more commonly known as Dronon! Originally from Toronto. When I was 12, I saw the word "anthropomorphic" in a magazine article, looked it up in the dictionary, and that was when I realized it explained the common factor in all the cartoons I was watching on TV. I didn't find out about the fandom until I was 19, when someone decided to randomly try showing me furry artwork. I never developed a fursona, although I call wolf my "placeholder species". I have a fondness for Greek mythology (satyrs, centaurs, minotaurs), non-horror werewolves, and transformation.
It took me a few years to get into the fandom in the early 1990s. I was on a furry BBS in Toronto called The Trapline. I went to a furry party at a local SF con, then a road trip to a weekend event hosted by Tugrik, and later attended ConFurence 4. I lurked on FurryMuck a lot - my social skills aren't that great, so I made maps of the place, so that other people could explore it more easily. For a while I collected furry zines and comics. I lived in Montreal for a few years, but there were almost no furries there at the time (except for Wolfkidd).
In the late 1990s the Toronto furry scene became very active. I wasn't into its lifestyle, so I hung out on the fringes. At our monthly gatherings, I began to teach improv comedy. (When I was in high school, along with the 'Five Words' game, I came up with an exercise called 'Crisis Situation' which made its way into the Improv Encyclopedia.) A group of us performed at a couple of furry cons as "The Loonies", and the improv we did became part of the events at Camp Feral (although I never attended).
I began to take an interest in the history of furry fandom, and did con panels. Improv was still an interest, so SemJay and I came up with "Whose Lion Is It Anyway", which Alkali now runs with great success! Still, I wanted to contribute more to the fandom, so I tried writing a little fiction. (Some regular, some adult, under an alias.) Then I switched to non-fiction and started writing reviews, first for AnthroZine, and later for Flayrah, where I'm currently a co-editor with Tantroo/Sonious. I'm a largely inactive member of the Furry Writers' Guild. Over the years I've put together a binder of high-quality furry artwork that can be shown to people outside the fandom.
In the 2000s I moved to Winnipeg to work as a librarian, and became a fixture among the local furry crowd. Since I'm one of the few people with enough space, I host furmeets. Part of this is motivated from when I attended BBS meets as a teenager. It was difficult to come out of my shell, but those meets helped, so now I want to provide that opportunity for others! (Some of the locals mature. Some don't and are a constant source of drama. Especially those of you who "warn" me about specific people you're not getting along with, and keep forgetting your stuff when you leave.) I host an annual potluck in the month before Christmas, and help out with other local events occasionally! And sometimes I do random stuff, like my terrible tarot-reading act as "The Great Refundo".
Most of all, I love finding obscure animated films, some good, some terrible, and sharing them with friends.
(Other random fact: I was in the audience when The Frantics recorded their comedy sketch, "Last Will and Temperament".)
