Furaffinity Community in the next 10 years?
So Furaffinity has been around since 2005 and as of this journal it's 2025! That means this site has been around for around 20 years! I joined in 2010 5 years after it was founded so I didn't get to experience 10 years of the site until 2020. Add 5 years to that date and you're in 2025 which means I've experienced this site as a user for 15 years which is more than half of its current lifespan.
Based on that what I'm wondering is what will the next 10 years of this site bring in terms of the community? Here's how I felt the community was when I first came here: Mainly, considerably belligerent, strict, stern, mean, unforgiving, etc. I was not treated well when I first came here. People insulted my art, journals, comments, ran circles around my head when I didn't quite get something, blocked me for frivolous reasons most people weren't very cool.
Yes, I was inexperienced/green so I was a little dumb on etiquette so I made some mistakes I'm not proud of like asking for requests without checking an artist's profile to see if they even did them. And yes, people got upset at me for doing stuff like that and I apologize for doing things like not checking their profile first for important info. But even putting that aside I still got treated like shit. So fuck those artists.
Fast forward to today and things are kind of the same if not even worse of the community. Yes, I'm smarter for how I behave with the etiquette and other things but I have still gotten insults for my art as well as blocks for frivolous reasons and the community still seems to be a powerkeg of drama that you have to walk on eggshells not to ignite. And even then you might still ignite it through no fault of your own but rather the impulsive overreactive reactions of the artists involved.
So going back to the question what will this community be like in another 10 years? Will artists still be rude, overreactive, impulsive, and otherwise unreasonable to other artists or will the community be more level headed, relaxed and cut people some slack when they do something minor? I won't exactly hold my breath but I will hope for it.
Honestly the community seems pretty cold right now. It mainly seems to be solely business oriented in the sense that commissioners will write journals about commission sales and that's it. No journals about their lives, how to they feel about the world, what things they want to get done, what things they want fixed, etc..
I mean, a lot of these commissioners are pure business, since they aren't here to chat, offer insight or tutorials, etc.. They're here to make money and while that's their right it just feels a bit empty.
Also if you comment on someone's picture or even reply to someone's picture you're not necessarily going to get a reply. Which is kind of sad but to be expected.
I don't know, I just want to community to be better.
