Late night walk under the... lack of a moon.
To give a bit of an idea as to why this night was so special, maybe just enjoyable, I'll explain how I grew up. Basically, I have always been a city boy. Born about 5 minutes south of downtown Chicago and I have lived there since. My trips out of state have always been, well, to other cities, tourist attractions. Basically, I've always been under a light polluted sky. Even now, where I live in Milwaukee. Same exact story.
The very early morning of November 11th, I gathered a few friends from my dorm and we went for a walk. We left the building around 2 in the morning and set out on our glorious adventure to the beach. It was a new moon, so we were hoping for a great chance to see some stars. The walk took about 45 minutes until we actually found the beach. On the way, of course, one notable thing happened. We saw a fox! Twice! I've never actually seen very much in terms of wildlife, let alone foxes (they are, and have always been one of my favorite animals) so I was very happy about that. After we got to the beach though, we sat out on some rocks that had a decent amount of waves crashing up on them. Just sitting there was amazing. It was one of the most relaxing things I have ever done to be honest. My friends and I just sat there, talked, and goofed around a bit. Sadly though, there were a bit too many clouds for us to actually see any stars. We decided to head back after about half an hour and we made it back to our dorm in about half an hour as well. This is where the night got really nice though. The group split, three went to go sleep, the other three went to the athletic field. Now, the athletic field at my school, sure it may be in like, dead center of essentially downtown Milwaukee, but it has to be the best place I have ever gone in terms of seeing stars. My friend and I decided to lay down right in the middle of the field and just stare at the sky. Over time, stars became more clear, clouds cleared out, and we were able to see Jupiter, the big dipper, and a number of other stars and constellations. We laid there for quite some time, almost falling asleep... Until the third person decided to climb a tree off in the distance and call my phone to be extremely creepy.
We were completely satisfied with the night after that and headed back. I felt the need to write about this though because with my decision to drop out, I'll be going back to Chicago. I won't have opportunities to do anything like this anymore. At least not with the people that I've grown to view as brothers and sisters over such a short time. This is almost just being written for saving the memory in a written form, but at the same time, I kind of want to share the night because of how important it was to me.
In the case that anyone reads this, thank you for taking the time to do so.
