Lucerna, whose name means "One Who Lights the Way" are an ancient race of creatures, created a millennium ago of the great elder of the forest Jurak. One say the eldest tree from boredom decided instead of making a creature to add the great wilds that had a specific purpose to instead create one without any at all.

Not would they be the hunter, the hunted, the scavenger or the forager, no they would be a whim and a wish, made into reality by the great elder, to see what would come of them. He looks deep into the Well of Life from which his great gnarled roots grew, and picked from it all those concepts that rose to surface, little bits of many different animals.

Lion and Bat, Panda and Dog, Bird and Butterfly, Even elements of trees, all went into the creation of they who had no purpose, and once spiking the Well of Life with his oaken finger did the first, yet named as a race Lucerna come to be, followed by several more. The Elder was delighted with his newest creation and sent them off to do as they pleased, telling them only to do as they pleased till he called for them, for the time when and if he ever had a purpose for them.

Time passed, as time did, years became decades, decades became centuries, and in that time a need arose of which none in the forest could fill, a imbalance that no one race of creature could even hope to mend, an imbalance of spirit. Life begins, and so must it end, only to begin a new, this is the cycle of death and rebirth, but it the thickets and woodlands, marshes and groves of the endless forest the spirits of those who passed from life's end where becoming lost, unable even as intangible immortal spirits to find their way back to the Well of Life.

It was at this time the Great Elder called back his unnamed chimera children, and appointed them a name and a task, with powers befitting both. Jurak named them Lucerna, those who light the way. From their tendril, branch like wings each grew magical lanterns, in which and eternal flame glowed bright, visible brightly to the living but also to the spirits of the afterlife, guiding those lost yet living to safety and those passed on but misplaced to the Well of Life to keep the great cycle going.

The Elder instructed the Lucerna of but a single rule to follow in their duty they must never make themselves known on purpose; always to be watching and listening, yet never seen nor heard, a whisper in the branches, a whistle on the wind. So to this day to the Lucerna uphold their sacred charge as guides and guardians, and it is said to catch even a glimpse of one is a sign of great destiny in the viewer. (Story created by JakeCWolf)

Qualification:
To qualify as a lucerna you must meet these guide lines

* raccoon like tail (dose not have to be fluffy dose have to have the raccoon stripes)
* lanterns SOME WHERE
* Glow tail tip
* Bat like ears
* Big Feet
* Pug like face (drooping lips)

You do not have to have wings or many glow markings but most all lucerna's have glowing ears, nose, some kind of glowing marking

VERY FEW have glowing eyes, paw pads

Males have lion like manes
