tldr (long version below): my nana who paid a part of my rent has dementia and her power of attorney cut me off with no warning three days before rent is due and I need to make $508 to fill that rent money somehow.

Long version:

My long term partner and i split a few years back. My dad and my nana stepped in to pay the other half of my rent ($508) because i cant afford to live anywhere else.

My dad died unexpectedly in September in a motorcycle accident, leaving me to front his part of my support and the internet bill he paid for as well ($80) on top of grieving the loss of my only functioning parent. I'm on my provinces disability support program but I only get about $800 month before bills come out. I live in canada shit is expensive.

My nana was recently diagnosed with dementia. (My mom - her daughters - has it too and has been in the nursing home since 2018.) Myself and her long term friend were instated as her Powers-of-attorney. (People who can manage your life and make decisions for you when you cant do that for yourself).

Yesterday i tried to log onto my nanas bank as i do every end of the month to look at her finances and make sure everything's all good, and send myself the rent. $260 as agreed, since i front my dads $248 which i cant afford but id rather starve with a roof then be homeless again. I was homeless at 17 when my nana left my stuff on the side of the road and moved into a house with my mom and my nanas boyfriend. I was homeless again at 21 when my ex and i had to flee from their mothers place because it wasnt safe, I was kicked out by my grandmother again at 22 because me and my ex were both the same sex and she couldnt 'harbour sin under her roof any longer'.

Ive tried to have jobs here and there ever since i was 14. (Because at 14 my nana said i had to start paying for myself and stop living off my mom.)

Back to the present...

The rent assistance was a signed and documented agreement. I found out i was locked out from the account. I thought it was because of a wrong password, or my nana got a new card (she's lost a few this wasn't unusual) After a series of phone calls, being called a thief (which again... i was doing what I was legally supposed to? and had a signed contract to do), told i have no skills, told that i have to stand on my own two feet and stop taking advantage of my nana.

From this conversation i found out that not only had they gone to the bank and had me locked out of the bank, they had gone to the lawyers and stripped me of all powers of attorney for my nana.

Leaving me with nothing. No warning, no time to prepare fours days before rent. My nan with no blood relatives looking out for her. And no one was going to tell me.
