About Me.
Hello, I am Kennon. Also knows as Ratflies. You might be wondering how I come up with my username. I did it exactly how you'd think I did it. I basically stuck the names of two animals I liked together. I prefur to think of names that nobody else has thought of before, I avoid using common names with a string of numbers. I apply this thinking to my artwork. I'm not a person to specialize in one particular area. My interest has always been to learn a little bit of everything, and apply things so that they all work together.
I do hold certain principles on art. I think it's important to be able to define your principles to help guide you on what you want to say and to be able to defend yourself when it comes time to explain why has a certain piece of artwork has value.
When I'm judging something, I ask three questions. By what standards do I judge it by? Do those standards have merit? and Do I understand this thing fully and thoroughly? You wouldn't judge a horror movie the same way you would judge a comedy, you don't walk into a horror movie expecting laughter.
For me, I like to mix in gritty realism on cute and appealing subjects. I draw cartoons because they are incredibly appealing and they are perfect for exaggerating a subject. My favorite style of cartoons are the ones with crazy weird(but complimentary) colors, exaggeration and good texture, Like this one.

I like to stay true to the subject I'm interpreting, I don't want to tone down subjects in order to fit a certain style, but at the same time, I'm not interested in making a carbon copy of the subject. My thing is I like to take the essence of a subject and exaggerate it and interpret what is true about the subject into my own way. My favorite kind of art is the kind that explores ideas and themes and emotions. The drawings that I love, I find that they can bring emotions, feelings that can be difficult to convey. That's why I like to draw while listening to music. I would like to be able I've put together music myself, so far, I have snippets, but not full songs.
John Kricfalusi...It's sad for me to think about. I learned about cartoons from reading his blog, nobody else knew and taught about cartoons like he did. But then I read an article that showed he had sexually harassed his female employees. Sometimes the best and worst things can reside in a person, but I'm hoping he finds it in himself to make himself better, maybe, I don't know. There was one thing that I remembered and had taken to heart. That cartoons are best when they're cartoony, when they're exaggerated and appealing, because that's what they do better than any other medium, and they can't compete with live action, they have to do their own thing.
I'm a visionary, my goal is to bring what I feel and envision into existence. Sometimes, the idea is vague, or very faint picture or feeling, but moves me so powerfully, that I want to experience it once more and recreate it in real form.
Now, here's some random stuff about me.
I like to think, I like to write, I like to take photos of everything every two seconds. I like to practice guitar and piano (I have a long way to go). I like to draw cartoons and I like to have opinions on things, informed opinions, as opposed to random thoughts or distorted viewpoints...or nothing at all.
I tend to be less judgmental toward others, and more understanding. I value compassion. I do believe that in life, you will reap what you sow and that one must lead by example.
I also believe that drawing(like many things in life) is not so much a talent as it is a practice.
I can be a total perfectionist at times, I get so frustrated when I have a vision and my drawing(s) doesn't at least capture the essentials of it (And nobody can see it but me... 8|). I know from experience that when this happens, I'm probably doing it wrong and making bad habits, and I need some basic principles to help guide me. I love the 21st century.
I am incredibly behind on the technology of today, I feel like I was from another era and I was suddenly dropped into the world of today, much of my favorite stuff was done in the 90s, I don't have a fancy phone to stare down at all the time( that could be a blessing).
I find that a lot of under-appreciated art is great in one area, but has one fatal flaw in another that keeps it hidden and obscure.
My favorite food is Ice Cream, I can get tired of Doritos, Cake, Pies, or any other food, but never Ice Cream.
I am Straight.
I usually prefer erotic implication and characters I care for. I'm rather nervous about showing any sort of pornographic art out in the open, mostly because I don't want a family member to bump into it. I usually use a scanner, but it's out in the living room.
(If you ever bump into me, remember that it's Kennon, not Kenneth.)
