A higher standard (or, why I will be leaving FA) (G)
Well, if you take a look at my gallery now, you will notice that it's empty. No submissions, favourites, watches, or other info. Except this one post.
I have my reasons for leaving; if you're following the drama unfolding right now across the entire service, you can make a very good guess at them.
While FA's administration has determined that the depiction of cubs being molested for the purposes of sexual gratification does not fall afoul of US law and based their decision of that exception, Canadian law has no such exception built into it. In addition, not only does the law prohibit the creation of such material, but the possession and access of it as well.
Yes, there are defenses available against, and it is a grey area, but since I do not like such art, I do not wish to see it.
You may point to the filtering system as a way to block it out, but all it takes is one misclassification or rushed submission, and that filter is circumvented. Unfortunately, that puts me in the wrong for trying to browse the contents of this site.
In a few months, I will be accepting employment with the federal government; security checks are almost certain to turn up some connection if I continue to stay here. I have to hold myself to a higher moral standard than that, which is why I'm leaving.
To those who feel this is a reason to ridicule me, good riddance. But for those who still wish to view and comment on all my artwork and watch it for updates, I have made a separate website with this purpose in mind. The rest of this post is for your information.
My gallery will be found at http://rkniner.furtopia.org/?tab=gallery, where, you can view my art, photography (which is limited at the moment), and sketchwork (when I upload it). You can view individual pieces, and comment right on them (no registration is necessary, unless I change it in the future to help deal with spam) as well as read everyone else's comments made at the site.
If you want updates, though, you will need a news aggregator that supports Atom feeds. If you don't have one and won't install one, Google Reader works for this (and can function as a widget on the Google homepage); similar services exist elsewhere. You can then subscribe to the feed using autodiscovery on any gallery page (with any combination of filters) or the handy link in the sidebar.
I may add more features in the future, but that will be it for now. Thank you for your time, and hope to talk to you on my main gallery.
Respectfully yours,
Richard K Niner
