Furnal Equinox! (Lengthy description of my first con) (G)
Hey yall!
So this morning I returned from FE 2018. It was an absolute BLAST! I honestly didn't expect to have that much fun due in part to the fact that I'm so closeted and nervous about revealing myself to be a part of the fandom. But after the first day I realized (rather surprisingly) that my face was sore because of how much I was smiling. This is just a quick rundown of the on-goings of the convention, or at least what I took part in.
Friday morning was an early 3 hour drive to the convention center with a few of my close friends from school. After parking, check in, and getting our con badges we hit the opening ceremonies. From there I went right over to the Dealer's Den and commissioned and official reference sheet (will be posted when finished, of course). Then it was a day of people watching and hanging out before that evening. At around 10 Zephyr had an awesome concert I attended before heading up to my friend's room to pregame for a rave that evening. On the elevator ride down to the party I met the wonderful
Ellie-Fennaroo Then things get kinda blurry at the rave itself, but I remember passing out on the floor outside of my friends room.
Saturday was met with breakfast from Tim Horton's and another day on the con floor, mostly people watching and enjoying the company of all the furs. We had a tea social, which I got to sample some EXCELLENT tea as well as meet two more awesome guys, Moxy and Custard Fox. We had an awesome chat about a tabletop game they're kickstarting (Check it out here!! https://www.kickstarter.com/project.....e-board-game). That evening me and a few of my fellow furs went to the Black Eagle club, which was a really awesome experience. Back at the hotel there was another night of raving and a room party, both very nice.
Sunday was when I wanted to take photos of everything. After completing some homework for circuits (and being attacked by some suiters in the middle of it!) I hit the floor once more and began to take plenty of photos of suiters and the con. Sadly Sunday was the shortest day, and the closing ceremonies hit pretty hard with the introduction of a new con chair. After saying my goodbyes and packing up we headed back home.
All in all FE was a HUGE eye opener. I always thought that I wasn't going to really be able to enjoy the fandom for what it is because of how nervous I am around people. I've grown up in an environment where being nerdy and in a fandom like this is seen as a very bad thing. But after relaxing and opening up with everyone I had such an awesome time, and I'm REALLY inspired to be more involved. Maybe you'll start seeing more art from me here, who knows! But I really feel much more cemented here in the fandom as a whole.
TLDR; FE was a huge success and I feel totally inspired to start being more involved in the fandom.
