Long Month and a Half.... (UPDATE)! (G)
a month agoHello everyone!
A bit of a long one, hopefully you can bear with me.
I will start by saying I'm SO sorry for being gone so long again! I also wanted to vent a little bit. I'll put a TLDR at the end.
I wanted to apologize for my absence as of late. I have been kinda going through a lot mentally and physically; I often feel tired so many days where I can't get out of bed, and I think it's probably partly the stress and depression getting to me, but no doubt my autoimmune conditions as well.
My dad in early February got prostate removal surgery because during biopsy they found a potentially cancerous lesion- which did, in fact, turn out to be cancer.
Apparently the biopsy showed that 50% of sticks were positive for Prostate cancer.
They gave him multiple options where he could go from there- it looked like stage 2 at most so it was caught fairly early. One doctor said he could even probably wait 5 years if he didn't want to do anything at the moment, or alternatively they could just remove the lesion from the prostate that seemed cancerous.
Thankfully, my dad is smart and chose to have the whole thing removed, because he didn't even want a CHANCE of that crap becoming something worse.
Turns out, it was a VERY good call. They did histopathology on the removed prostate, and it actually was Stage THREE cancer.
Thankfully though, it was still pretty early in the sense that nothing seemed to have metastasized yet anywhere else, so that's good. They also removed all of the lymph nodes that surrounded the prostate for extra security even though none showed signs of it having passed there yet.
THEN, about 5 days after post-op, he had his catheter removed, and when he went pee was suddenly in the WORST abdominal pain of his life. It was so scary- we called the hospital and ambulance to check him out of course- the pain ended up dying down, but came back when he had to pee again.
TURNS out, the catheter was removed a little too early.....so there was a rip between the bladder and the urethra, and it was leaking fluid into the abdominal space, which ended up causing an infection.
This meant they recatheterized him, and he had to leave it in for a MONTH now because of that injury. It was no fault of his own, 5 days to a week is the standard to have a catheter in, and catheters are obviously not fun...but damn that sucked.
HUGE REMINDER to all my AMAB pals- once you turn 50 (although id recommend 45 honestly) they are NOT kidding when they say get your prostate checked. So please PLEASE keep on top of that if you are over 45-50! It can happen sooner as well of course, but the likelihood skyrockets at that age- my dad is not the only one who has had this happen only shortly after being 50.
Thankfully, there is a 95% chance survival rate for things like what my dad went through since we did catch it early, so I'm not too worried now, although I am a little still. However, they will be checking to make sure he has absolutely NO prostate cells in his body regularly; this will ensure to the doctors that it in fact did not metastasize, and that if there is any sign of it, they will start chemo immediately, which also has a very high success rate.
Idk, this is my first time dealing with anything cancerous with someone I am close to, so naturally it's scary. I think that along with MANY other things took a bit of a toll on my mental health, but I wont get into the other things much.
I had a bad fall about a week or so ago, primarily on my DOMINANT arm that I draw with, with my wrist and elbow taking the brunt of it. It hurt a lot and I got scraped, but I don't think there's anything broken or seriously injured; just some bone bruising I'd assume.
TLDR; Mental health has been quite bad, physical health isn't great either with feeling exhausted oftentimes and other things, probs because of autoimmune conditions. Also was dealing with the stress of my dad having to deal with prostate cancer surgery, the anxiety behind it, then a bad incident happened after his surgery at home where the catheter was removed too early and it was so scary how much pain he was in. Also had a fall and wasnt able to draw for awhile.
Anyways, that's a lot to report, so i'll stop there.
There was also a winter storm right before all of this which didnt help!
Much love to you all, I hope you are all doing okay!! 💖
