A passage of time within a story im currently writing
8 years ago
Consider this two things. one an introduction to characters brought to life by a dnd session between me and several others. the characters are copyrighted by me. and two the book I am writing is also copyrighted by me and thus. With that said. Enjoy.
The sky turned dark. the world almost blacker then the blackest night. Clouds overhead looming like an ever looming presence. The clash of thunder. the roar of lightning. The world around held no other sound but the heavy breath of two figures standing to face one another. A bovine creature in heavy plated armor wielding a hammer nearly twice her size. Being as she is her own height that of an Eleven foot tall heavily muscled being. Before her stood a being of much smaller stature. However its own heavy breath seemed almost. Otherworldly. What seemed like breath came out in deathly sighing hisses. The flesh was transparent. the bones phasing in and out of view. The creatures attire seeming to shift between realities. Its armor was a mixture of lather and light mail. Upon its hands two swords that seemed to phase in time with the creatures own existence. Both were tense. holding their weapons at the ready as they circled one another. each step a motion done as if they were reading each others movements carefully. All around them the rain began to pour like a heavy sheet of nearly deafening sound. a heavy exhale flowing from the bovine with enough force to be barely heard over the pelting rain. The wraith twitching its body before leaping to the right as the hammer came down with such force the stone ground of the mountainside they stood upon shook. Again the wraith moved out of the way. this time just barely as it leaned back enough to just be missed by the mighty swing of this enraged woman. Even so. it was ready. as the third swing came for its legs it leapt into the air quickly enough to allow its feet to kick off the passing hammers head. changing its trajectory enough for the wraith to have enough time to counter. Wide open the bovine yelled as blade cut into flesh. red blood falling down her shoulder. Thankfully it was merely a nick thanks to the protection of her armor. She jumped back as the second swing flew by. Just enough to avoid a tornado of movement from the agile and quick wraith. Familiar eyes staring at the bovine from the concealment of its hood. An old friend now turned enemy. In her mind she knew there was no changing what cruel fate had deemed her old friend such a creature of death. However upon looking into its eyes her heart sank. Tears welling up into her eyes. the eyes of the wraith cold. Nearly lifeless. The bovine lifted her hammer and charged. Her movement suddenly a burst of speed that caught the wraith off guard. With barely enough time to move it swung its blades forward in a scissor like arc. But, to no avail, For the bovines armor knocked the edges of the blades aside. Helmet collided with decaying flesh. sending the wraith reeling as it was lifted off the ground from the impact and smashed into the wall. Grunting it landed on its hands and knees. unarmed. For a moment the wraiths mind reeled. The duty of its lord. the desires of the darkness in its heart. the constant commanding voice pushing it to do as it must. To kill this great warrior. it all seized. Fists clenched. it fought out the words. "R-Run, Gr'thela, Run quickly...While i still have my senses.." Gr'thela began to shake as she heard him. The wraith stood slowly. half of his transparent face the face of her old friend. The other still that cold unfeeling look of death. "R-ru-...run..." Gr'thela tightened her grip on her hammer. One hoof sliding back a little Only to push upon the stone and hold firm. "I cannot, I c-cant do that..." Her eyes were resolved. She knew what she had to do. Tears pouring down her cheeks as she clenched her teeth. "Forgive me..." The wraiths face faded from view as the weapons were lifted to cross over his chest in an x. Both charged one another. The bovines hammer poised to crush. The swords of thee wraith pulled back as he charged toward her. At that moment it seemed to gr'thela that all movement came to a slow near stop motion. Even her own steps seemed to take ages between each. Could she really do this? Could she kill the one person who stood with her for so many adventures? Could she really put an end to the misery that plagued his now undead soul? Questions roared through her mind. Thoughts of old memories. What could she do? There was no stopping now. It was up to her to save his life even at the risk of her own. she would not let The King of magic Garas Bolthorne use her friend for his deeds any longer. No more innocent lives would fall if she would just finish the blow. Just destroy him. Destroy the wraith, its the only way. It was then that her senses returned to her. She was laying in a bed covered in bandages. no sign of her armor and hammer. no sign of her old friend. What had happened...? Did she do it..? To filled with grief. to filled with a sudden burst of exhaustion. Her eyes closed. The bovine drifting into uncertain rest.
