MWFF 2013 GOH Experience Recap…. This was epic.
… Just WOW.
Where to begin? This has been the most amazing con experience of my life.
Thank you to MWFF!:
My deepest thanks and appreciation to the staff of MWFF. Special thanks to Perro and Takaza for helping this come to reality. And Takaza makes excellent drinks! This GOH experience had excellent communication and planning, and I felt confident going in that everything was set to go! Thanks to Chairo for taking care of me during the con, helping me with the little last minute things.
The Hyatt is such an amazing hotel. Great service, huge open bright spaces, and tons of area for all the con events. I was jaw dropped when we first arrived.
Highlights:
-Errands and shopping on Thursday with Wolfish, Bloofox, and Wolever. Made Wolever's traditional pilgrimage to his homeland of Krispy creme and watched his eyes twinkle when ordering 8 dozen doughnuts. Went shopping a the mall, got some xmas gifts, and all the awesome stuff from Hot-topic and Spencer's. Tasty lunch at Cheesecake Factory ( Wolfish's favorite), and then supplies and booze run. An essential afternoon before such a crazy con. Thank you Wolever and Bloofox for including us in this day, we enjoyed it so much.
-Arriving in the plaza suite and being welcomed by a spread of booty and spoils! So thoughtful of MWFF to find out what drinks and snacks I liked, and surprise me with a treasure chest full! There was a mini coffee press and teapot, a bottle of Vanilla vodka, a box of Coke zero, tons of snackies, a box of prisma markers, a bag of Funyuns with an Octopus drawn on the bag….
-Funyuns. MWFF emailed some of my close friends with permission to get some info on the things I like, and some questions to ask me a the Meet the GOH panel. Morg and Ravyn conspired to make up a random thing to see if how it played out. And the Funyuns with the octopus drawn on the bag actually happened! Laughing so hard!
-The food. I went off my diet for the weekend, and it was well worth it. The Hotel brunch was great, Cheesecake Factory, ordering Chinese-pizza, Medieval times, GOH dinner, Shiny Sponsor reception, and Sponsors brunch! Already back down to pre-MWFF weight yay!
-SO many friends and acquaintances. What a different experience for me from 2009, I felt completely surrounded by wonderful people.
-Meeting the faces behind many of my clients costumes. So great to connect with you and see you smile and happy.
-Did pretty well at the dealers table selling T-Shirts and badges. The coyote head and tail (that i finished day before the con lol) silent auction at my table rocketed up to over 1k, with a ferocious pen battle near the end. The winner was such a nice guy Im so glad the coyote, now named Fissure, is going to a good active home. I can't thank my Wolfish enough for his tremendous help in running the table, especially since I was gone half the time running panels. Thank you to Rozga for having your table next to mine. Your artistic input, company and awesome mojo were an inspiration and huge support! Cari your help in getting this all setup and helping me get all my stuff through the USA was essential to this success, and I can't thank you enough!
-Seeing my art for the con come to reality. I made the cover to the restaurant guidebook, as well as the engraving for the Shiny Sponsor flasks. The original lion sketch for the guidebook I donated to the charity auction, and it sold for $225! WOW I didn't expect that to go so high. It was originally drawn on the back of a flight plan at work lol.
-I did get ONE chance to go suiting on Friday I put on my SilverHuskywolf suit and my Pirate wench partial. Running around was fun! Ended up in Red Bar having drinks. Didn't last too long as I was already pretty tired from the days events.
-Hosting a few casual room parties. It was so great to have some space in the plaza suite to have groups of friends over for Cards Against Humanity, Chine-izza, and tons of Arting!
-Seeing Zorrofox, the suit I recently sent to Sweeden, come all the way back across the pond to come to MWFF.
-The amazing support of two great Friends Nall and Cari. Who helped me with tons of con prep and table help and so much!
Critiques:
-Not having enough time to spend with so many people I wanted to see. I barely had time to run from event to event, and only got to say "Hi ---> Bye!" to many friends I would love to be having beers with.
- Exhaustion. Luckily no con crud after the con (thanks to a giant bottle of hand sanitizer), but by Sunday afternoon I was run off my feet. Totally worth every moment though, and I figured I can sleep on the plane lol! I kept lots of caffeine going thats for sure.
-Not suiting enough. Only suited once, which was fun, but this is the fun that originally hooked me in. Next time I'll suit much much more!
-Missed all the dances. I love dancing, and I'm sad i didn't get a chance to hit one up. Just busy with room parties, arting, dinners, and more. So totally worth it still.
-Everything went by so fast! I did take a few moments just to suck it all in, and I feel very complete and content with how much I got to experience.
Events:
-Got away from the con for a night, and went to Medieval Times with Wolfish, Mandakatt, Tiggs, Bloofox and Wolever. Excellent night! Much cheer and drink! Made our knight blush so hard he almost fell of his horse. Food was great, and so was the AleFest afterwards. 20 or so breweries and distilleries with lots of IPA's, meads, and liquors. 7-9% for most of them got us feeling pretty good pretty fast!
-Ran a plethora of fursuit related panels. I was happy to give back to the con as much as I could after they had given me so much! Basic Fursuit Construction and Design, Advanced Fursuit Construction and Materials, Fursuit Maintenance and Care, and Fursuit Head Making. I hope everyone who came to the panels was able to take some good info home! These panels are for YOU GUYS and it was an honor to see such great attendance.
-Big thanks to my panel co-hosts
blondefoxy
latinvixen
bloofox , with your help the panels were a huge success! It was great to bounce ideas back and forth and generate ideas.
-FurrHappens Photoshoot went really well considering the location was changed several times from the original plan. We wrangled 18 suits (20 or so at the con) and got them to sit still for long enough to snap some great pics! Thanks to DexCat for his lovely photo setup and taking all these beautiful photos which I will repost asap. My candid ones came out pretty cool too. Many thanks to all who came out, it meant SO much to me to see so much of my work together and to see you all happy and being adorable in your characters. I remember every one of our journeys together, and am so thankful of the friendships that have grown as a result. You guys ARE family!
-GOH dinner was the initial icebreaker on Thursday night for Wolfish and I to get to know the con staff and other GOH's
sonderjen and his lovely wife,
chibi-marrow and
kitsuneteej . It was a pleasure to share this experience with you guys, and its an Honor to have met you! Thanks for being so kind to us. The open bar was great, and a 4 course dinner featuring prime rib was pure happy. Awesome restaurant at the top of the hotel, used to rotate but its broke. Great views!
-Shiny Sponsor Reception was also in the big restaurant in the sky, I didn't know many people, but it was pleasant atmosphere and we enjoyed some tasty amaretto drinks with Wolfish, Chibi and Teej. Kobe Beef sliders were amazing. There was a condiment station, but the beef was so amazing it needed nothing additional. Yum!
-Sponsor Brunch was a HUGE setup. I highly recommend getting sponsor level to everyone just for this brunch alone. Wall to wall smorgasbord of food. Had a great brunch with Wolfish, Chibi, Teej, Chairo, Lanakilla, Tiggs, and Manda. Coffee for all!
-Meet the GOH panel went great. I admit I was nervous being on the stage, and had NO CLUE what dirt my friends had given to Takaza lol. I ended up telling a few stories about how to get out of a funk, how I get inspired, crazy commissioner stores, and general questions. The 4 inch taint story happened, Donald duck did not lol. Thanks Lucifur, Vern, Ravyn, and Morg for giving such great dirt on me lol.
-Opening and Closing ceremonies: So happy to see the pet adoption charity go home with over 20k in donations. They are great people helping a great cause.
-Dead Dog party on Sunday. Wow this party was HUGE. Great so see some people I knew, and met some new ones! Was nice just to run around in Kigu to other room parties and be social, even if just for one night.
Friends: (I'm gonna add to this, but i have to head to work now!)

And the rest is such a blur, I met hundreds of people this weekend. Was great having the dealers table as a place to meet you all! I feel so complete now in my fursuit making career, and this con was such a complement, enjoyment, celebration, and I felt the experience was perfect. As full as a con will ever get for me. Im probably missing so much in this report, as the experience was tremendously massive. Im looking forward to next year already and spending more fun time with friends!
