(!) Making FA my 'archive site'
Not the first of many of these journals, I imagine! But here goes.
Where I'm at: I no longer trust FA for real time communications and for keeping touch with people that I want to here. The uptime is just too low and unreliable, and often even when it is up, the site is frequently slow. There are simply better choices out there, I've had enough, and I'm going to make the courageous move of saying I'm making the leap.
I believe I can trust FA to keep images that I've already posted around, so in that sense, it's kind of an archive, but I want to make more of a presence on a site that hasn't got the scalability and feature-lack issues that this one does.
As such, my primary presence will be on Weasyl. I'm at https://www.weasyl.com/user/skylerbunny . Please come look me up and say hello!
A couple things relating to questions/concerns I've heard a lot:
"I don't want to go there because everyone is here."
That was kind of more true before this week. A great many people have now moved into Weasyl, and I expect numerous journals of this type. But that said, to see WHO is already there, I suggest checking out http://projects.weasyl.com/soft which lets you put in your watchlist and find followers and people you want to follow.
"But I have 900 watchers here, and much less other places."
Well, yes, but each person will get a lot more if they commit to go there and make it a primary. You don't have to table-flip and delete everything in your gallery here, just start posting THERE. Besides, given FA has been around as long as it has, I suspect a pretty fair share of watchers here are inactive, duplicate/migrated accounts, deceased users...you name it. Having said that, I'd like to link to a brilliantly worded journal from Jonas, here, about the topic of Numbers: 'Don't wait for an audience': https://www.weasyl.com/journal/1988.....or-an-audience
"It's a pain to move my art anywhere else."
A second 'huge benefit' tool is Waxpost, which allows crossposting of images from multiple sites - including FA - to Weasyl - if one image at a time. That one is located at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/.....fhpdpekfdaenjc . Anyway, unless you really want to, you don't have to migrate every single image! I did only a subset of mine.
At the time of this writing, almost 70% of the people I watch here already at least have a Weasyl account. I very much want to see more of you all there, and hopefully, as I want to, spinning it up! The URLs change, the great art and the community of great people I know is the constant!
