Hello everyone!!
I'm Soerix. You can pronounce my name any way you like: "Sowerix", "So-Erix", "Sorix", "Soorix"...
I'm more of a writer than an drawing artist, but I always have the utmost respect for those who pour their time and soul creating art.
I like general furry art of any kind, whether it be character sheets or comics.
I also like bondage art, mostly light, though I don't mind some NSFW bondage, but not too NSFW.
Also, I don't like inflation and vore. But I respect everyone's tastes! (No pun intended :s)

Dragons: Rescue Riders - Way better than it seems! (G)
5 years ago
First of all, I hope everyone is doing fine and having the best quarantine possible. It's not an easy period, but we'll all get through this together.
If you plan to watch something on Netflix to pass the time in your home, then there is one show in particular that I highly recommend.
I would really appreciate if you read my review to the end but there's a TL;DR at the end if you don't feel like reading it all.
Dragons: Rescue Riders is a child-oriented spin-off of the How To Train Your Dragon series. The fact that it is titled "Dragons" and not "HTTYD" shows that it does not take place in the HTTYD world, but in a whole new universe and a different canon than the HTTYD canon. No Hiccup, no Toothless, no Astrid, no Stormfly, etc. BUT, as you'll see, it's not necessarily a bad thing.
For those who haven't watched the trailers, Rescue Riders takes place in a world where (just like at the beginning of HTTYD 1) dragons and humans don't really live in harmony with one another, and also, where dragons actually speak their own language (just like in the original novels) made of roars and grunts (to the human ear). There's not one human hero this time, but two: Leyla and her brother Dak, whose parents died in a shipwreck and who were then adopted by a kind mother dragon who raised them. By growing up alongside dragons, Leyla and Dak naturally developped the ability to understand the dragon language just like their own human language, and thus, are the only characters in the show who can actually understand what dragons say (while all dragons, except for babies, can perfectly understand humans).
The others heroes are, well, their young dragon friends:
- Winger (a male Swiftwing), son of the dragon mother who raised them and thus their adoptive brother (though he is undoubtedly closer to Dak), is a very fast dragon who is kinda the big brother of the group;
- Summer (a female Fastfin), an aquatic dragon who once saved Leyla from drowning and thus became her best friend, is kinda the big sister of the group;
- Cutter (a male Relentless Razorwing), who can breathe fire and throw spikes from his tail, is the cocky and good-natured one of the group, and a bit of a prankster;
- Burple (a male Rockspitter), who can spit rocks and store them in his four stomachs, is the gentle one of the group;
- Aggro (a female Fire Fury), who doesn't appear until episode 4, can breathe fire and heat up her own body and is the friendly but hot-tempered one of the group.
The premise: the twins and their dragon friends, after rescuing dragons for quite some time, rescue a human for the first time. This chief viking then leads the group to his village, Huttsgalor, where they will eventually integrate and get dragons to be accepted by the local humans. By living there, they help/rescue its inhabitants as well as the various dragons of all ages that live nearby through their many adventures. It's a pretty simple premise, yet effective for what it is: it's a kids show (and it should be seen as such).
Personally, what I love about this show are the characters, especially the dragons, who all have nice designs (even Winger's, which is pretty basic), which however is more than I can say for the designs of Leyla and Dak. But most of all, they all have distinct personalities and abilities. They all have their endearing traits, and their interactions with one another clearly show that they're more than friends, they're one big family. And it's often a joy to watch.
As for the episodes' stories, most of them are decent, some of them not so much. It's uneven, but some of them are actually pretty damn good and well written!
Now it does have its annoying flaws: as I've said, Dak and Leyla have kinda boring designs, as do almost all humans in this show; I find Elbone (basically the human comic relief character) insufferable; the human "villain" is a 100% kids show villain stereotype (I won't spoil it for you); and the plot in some episodes can be rather predictable (again, it's a kids show)... BUT it also has really charming traits: I really enjoyed the concept of human kids understanding dragons (which is how it is in the books' HTTYD universe); there are some good dialogue bits; acknowledged continuity, with later mentions of previous episodes' events; very good voice acting; and once again, most of all, endearing characters (especially the dragons) and heartwarming interactions with one another.
Rescue Riders is really not as bad as everyone (on YouTube and Reddit notably) says it is (mostly without having actually tried to watch it). But it's not extraordinary either. Basically, this show is actually pretty damn decent, and there are many kids shows targeting the same demographic that are of much poorer quality and made way more lazily.
To conclude: do NOT trust the trailer (especially don't reduce it to that fart joke in it), be open-minded and give Rescue Riders a chance for at least the first 4 episodes.
Oh, and for those who can read the runic alphabet: pay attention, you might be in for some surprises...
TL;DR : If you hate it after only watching the trailer, do NOT let that trailer mislead you. Rescue Riders is NOT a bad show. It's not the best kids show in the world, but it is still far from crappy. It's actually pretty damn decent. If you're a dragon enthusiast, then you should really give it a chance! Keep in mind it's a kids show, and does not try to be as complex or serious as the HTTYD movies are. However, it is still a pretty good watch for your quarantine, with a lot of fun, with endearing characters, heartwarming interactions and usually good stories. Watch it with an open mind, at least try the first 4 episodes, and you might enjoy it more than you thought. I certainly did!
