I began reimbursing back into the furry community since January of this year (2024). Dying to move out of my small town to live on my own, and trying to make a living by myself, I began wondering about this swept-aside part of myself... "How's the furry community doing?" I asked myself. Not gonna lie, I thought it had shrunk in size. But it turns out to actually the opposite. It's bigger than ever. I find people within my circles to be pretty accepting of it when they hear I make furry art. Heck, it's actually considered pretty fashionable among some gen-Z folks in the rave/DJ scene. That's pretty hecking cool.
I dipped in and dipped out of the fandom. When I was young, the furry fandom was my escape, my safe-space so to speak. Find like minded, off-beat people with a similar interest in cool animal characters. Who doesn't like animals? Furry OCs are like outlets of our secretly desired selves we wish to be perceived and lived as... I've come to appreciate furry media for its cute and awkward emotional resonance... I love that furry art is the way it is. It isn't perfect and clean, and that's totally rad. A personally fabricated take?; through furry characters we get to express the awkward and otherwise uncomfortable parts of ourselves- for example, notoriously, fetishes... Stories in our mind we've been brewing on... character concepts from everyday observations... its beautiful.
