I, Syrus Brunerus Fretensis, was born on a summer day—August 3rd, in the year 2628 PXR, which stands for Pax Romanum, or "Peace of Rome." By Earth’s old reckoning, that would be the year 1875 AD. My birthplace was the province of Felecia, located in the far east of the Roman Empire.

The world I come from mirrors Earth in many ways, yet its geography and history have followed a drastically different path. In my world, Rome did fall—but not forever. It rose again, many times over. I was fortunate to live during one of its golden ages, a time when most of the known world was united under a single rule. We called this era the Pax Romana—the Roman Peace, or simply, the Roman World.

I was born into the noble class—not a patrician, but not a commoner either. My family was part of a proud ethnic group known in formal terms as Homo animalis anthropomorphis lupus—or, as the locals say, the Anthro-Collie. Though we bear features resembling animals familiar to your Earth—our fur, ears, and muzzles—make no mistake: we are unmistakably human in thought, soul, and spirit.

Our kind is just one among many peoples who make up the great Empire of Terra—or as we most often call it, Romanorum.
