New Music: The Same Ocean (G)
In 2023, my husband and I made our first visit to Prince Edward Island for our wedding anniversary, and we were instantly taken in by its beauty. Over the next few years, we visited the island several times, and were always sad to leave and go home.
In 2025, we visited again for our wedding anniversary and stayed for a week. We found ourselves one morning on Cavendish Beach on the north shore of the island. As the salty water lapped gently against my feet and the sandy beach, I stood still, just breathing in the smell of the clean ocean air, as I usually do when I'm near the ocean.
Having lived for 20 years in Nova Scotia and having been by the Atlantic Ocean many times, one thing struck me that morning on Cavendish Beach — the ocean smelled different. The salt smell wasn't as strong as I was used to. The air smelled fresher. But it was the same ocean as Nova Scotia.
From this sentiment, The Same Ocean was born one night in my head. It was my way of expressing my love for the province of Prince Edward Island.
