Tamon's B Side is an anime me and my bf recently finished watching through, its about Utage, a J-Pop obsessed fangirl who hardcore simps for Tamon, the hottest guy in a boyband called F/ACE. She simps so hard for Tamon that she practically worships him like a god (think swiftie X otaku with a wifu shrine) She is so devoted to Tamon that she gets a job as a house keeper purely so she can spend all the money she makes on "financially supporting her oshi" as she puts it. So day one of her new job she heads to the customers apartment and low and behold guess who she sees answering the door? A depressed boy failure pop star Tamon himself lolz And romantical shenanigans ensues from there UwU From here on the show is pretty much about Utage wrestling with her feelings of "I'm just a lowly fan, I don't deserve to be in the presents of a god like Tamon" and her coming to terms with catching feelings for Tamon's actual real boy failure personality and not just his fake hot pretty boy persona he puts on for his fans. Now this show does have the annoying cliché of "Oh this silly guy, its so quirky that he can't do the bare minim to keep him self clean and healthy, he needs a woman who'll happily do EVERYTHING for him and teach him the basics of how to be a normal functioning adult!" which does give me the ick, but I think the show strikes the right balance here of comedy when Tamon is in his depression mode and like him actually put in the effort to better himself with out Utage's help (which you can actually see the development of as the show goes on) where I'm willing to give it a pass. I'm not going to get into spoilers here but it is a romance anime so clearly the characters are going to develop feelings for each other, and I'm just a sucker for romance in general so I may be biased but I think the romance in this show is super cute! >w< I love love, I love watching characters fall in love, I love seeing them get blushy and embarrassed around each other, I love seeing them put into situations, I love seeing jealousy that arises because of those feelings, all of which this show has so it gets a 8/10 in the romance department from me! 👍 One thing that does bother me tho that seemingly almost every romance anime I watch seems to shoehorn in is the characters REFUSING to communicate their feelings, like when they both CLEARLY like each other, both characters KNOW that they like each other, but REFUSE to say anything to the other or purposefully sabotages their relationship for like NO REASON??? It makes me wanna bang my head against a brick wall when I see this happen, and I get it, there needs to be some sort of relationship conflict but you can literally do ANYTHING ELSE, you can still have conflict AND have the characters clearly communicate with each other its not that hard. To illustrate my point I would say the best example of this happening is in season 2 of Please Don't Toy With Me Nagatoro, and while its not quite on the same level as that in Tamon's B Side, this situation is still the same and it drives me coocoo banana bonkers 😤 One thing I really like about the show but I wish it had gone just a little more in depth into is how awful the idol industry is and how its not only making our main boy miserable, but the rest of the boy band as well (and we get to see their B sides as the show goes on as well) Now this being an idol anime clearly the show had to spin everything in a positive light like "Tamons just super depressed because he cares so much about his fans and just really really wants to make them happy and not disappoint anyone 🥺" which like, obviously in the real word isn't true, it even spins Utage's obsessive behaviour which her dedicating her life and more importantly, spending all her money on supporting her fav boy band, as a morally good and righteous thing to do because it makes her happy and fills her with inspiration to be a better person or something, which again irl this behaviour is very unhealthy, and is honestly why myself I've never been willing to get into any K-Pop or J-Pop idol groups despite knowing I would probably love a lot of the music. The members of these groups are treated so horribly (especially the woman) they basically live a military life style just instead of learning how to kill people they learn how to be the perfect popstar, and then they also have to pretend that they are perfect and that they're job is perfect and nothing bad ever happens to them, to where just like Tamon in the show, they basically have bipolar personalities on and off stage. Sorry if my ramblings are making this show seem more negative than it actual is, in reality these are like 2 small gripes I had with the show that I just wanted to yap about a bit, but in reality don't really negatively affect the show at all that much (well depending on how much characters not communicating there feelings bothers you lolz) To move on to something more positive, y'all, I really thought I wouldn't get got. Me being in my fat fur tummy enjoying era I really thought I had moved past my need to crush on stereotypical perfect anime pretty boy propaganda, but let me tell y'all... NO ONE IS IMMUNE TO PROPAGANDA!!! Tamon is SO CUTE OMG 😭😭😭 The pink hair, the bangs, those opaline eyes! Not to mention when he goes into boy failure mode and hides under that big hoodie and sweat pants!!! MY HEART!!! I would say more about some of the things he does that drive me absolutely feral but that could possibly be getting into spoiler territory so I'll leave it for now lolz If I can find the time I would love to draw a bit of steamy fan art of him (¬‿¬) Anyways the TLDR of it all is this is a very cute short 13 episode romance anime, if you like pretty boys, boy failures, idol culture, and are willing to look past a few flaws and minor icks here and there I'd highly recommend watching this anime, its very short and sweet and I hope it comes out with a season 2 soon! I know there's a manga which I haven't read but the art on it also looks really cute so maybe check that out as well ^w^
