Costume commission?
Hi all, I know my account here is just anonymous and small but I hope if I put up my thoughts maybe I could get some help with something.
It feels like a pretty safe bet that people commission and advertise fursuits on this website, and I'm wondering if people who make fursuits make similar sorts of costumes for niche interests and ideas. I'm not expecting people to come to me, so I write this to be something to link to a potential costume maker if/when I find them.
The TLDR is that I'd like to build a wearable costume of my own kind of sona. It's basically just a bodysuit/leotard but in a rectangle shape like a loaf of bread. It'd pretty much be my pfp, but if the picture is too small I could find a way to uplaod it. It was a commission from Taamrya but unfortunately I can't find an upload from her to link to it.
I have some ideas to start, but for all I know this is just a complete fantasy. Without asking, I'll never know.
- Bread Bag: The outer plastic layer of the bread bag would be separate, to swap out for different designs. Top of the bag would be a bit more like a high collar, not sure if ruffles would work, I'm not going for a "dog cone" look. Soft if possible, a lot of commercial plastics seem to be good at this
- Material: The material has to balance durability, structure, and softness as much as possible. Maybe some type of soft foam? In a fantasy world, it'd be soft like squishy toys, but without the breakage that squishy toys suffer so quickly. Inflatable wouldn't work, and anything too hard misses the point of it being soft bread.
- Thickness: It really depends on the material and what's feasible, if I could choose, 4 inch thickness from the body? There might not be a choice
- Design: The loaf would have a little bit of detail so it wouldn't just be a brown box, but it also doesn't need to be overly intricate. Maybe just grooves to represent the slices and variation of brown/dark brown, like the pfp, the top part is an open slice.
- Accessories: Small arm band versions of the same thing, wrist to elbow. Top of the bread bag coming out like ruffle sleeves (and can also be swapped for other bag designs)
- Entry: Not sure about entry, it depends on the material and what's feasible. So long as it's not externally visible how I put it on I'm happy
- Entry 2: Arm holes on the sides rather than the top. Leg holes I'm unsure about, it really depends how the square of the bottom slice would look (I don't want to turn it into an upside down U shape if it's on the sides, but I don't want to lose the design of the bottom if my legs are just too big)
- "Amenities": Maybe TMI, but some way to wear it with minimal-no clothing would be good, I see this more as a private thing than a public thing (though externally it might look the same anyway). I know candycoatedsqueaks makes some inflatable suits with SPH's inserted inside, that would be a fun idea but again it all depends on how thick it all is.
- Accessories 2: Not essential, but some kind of glossy plastic thigh-high leggings as well would go really nicely
- Variations: If it's feasible at all, two loaf suits - one with the convex "3" shape (typical cartoon look), and one with the concave look. Convex first
Fursuits aren't cheap, and writing this out I can't imagine it being cheap either for a quality job. So, really hard to say how realistic any of this is. Fingers crossed though. I haven't been able to get the design out of my mind again recently. Realising it would be a dream come true.
Thanks for reading!
