I use the following for music making:
OpenMPT- for midi creation and midi editing.
Fruity Loops- for loop creation and loop editing
Sony Acid- For loop editing and loop mixing
Audacity- For pretty much everything after that: filtering, mastering, BPM, etc.
I also use TONS of VST plugins.
