Fools' cars, and my bike! (G)
2 weeks agoNo April Fools' joke from me this year; I couldn't really think of anything, especially after last year's "cease-and-desist-from-Pinkfong".
I am therefore marking 5 years since my April Fools' joke, where I announced on Twitter that furries were illegal where I lived, and I was escaping.
I told everyone on 1st April 2021 that I was being targeted by the local council simply because I was a furry, and in addition I had to deal with my mother. This would then be followed by the perfect tie-in, where I did sort-of escape!
On the afternoon, evening and night of April 1 that year, I drove from where I live, to Bruntons Bridge along the Thomson River in Gippsland.
The next day, I revealed it was all a joke and I had only gone away for Easter. I then continued east towards the south coast of New South Wales.
Never mind that my car broke down on the night of April 2, and after being stranded in the town of Delegate, NSW, for more than a day, I came back home on public transport.
To this day, I still want to escape for real.
A few weeks later, I made a pic featuring my then-fursona Albert the "tropical muskrat", highlighting what I have to put up with every day.
Whilst I had a car back then, if I did want to escape from where I lived soon, it would most likely be without a car. I got rid of my car in November last year since it had a lot of problems that would cost more than the car's market value to fix. Since then, I achieved more on my bike over the past 4 months or so, than I ever did just driving around.
That's another thing I never really mentioned back in 2021: this area and its people are almost entirely dependent on cars. Despite the other transport options available, people here just drive around. I on the other hand don't have a car, and doesn't need one. I now mostly get around just as easy, on my bicycle.
If I ever wanted another internal combustion vehicle, it would be a basic station wagon (or "estate").
I would strive for this over anything above it, especially my sister's overkill pickup/ute. If I wanted to waste my time and resources trying to get myself another car, I would strive for a basic station wagon that is as basic as it can get, but I wouldn't bother. I'm more likely to get a skateboard than another car.
I have my bike, and that's good enough! I don't really need the hassles of car ownership again. Fuel, rego, insurance, servicing, tyres, traffic, road rage, being featured on a certain YouTube channel, and so on.
People around me, including my mother, can tell me otherwise. But I'm sticking with my bike as my main mode of transport, as well as public transport. Since I've saved a lot of money by not driving, and the costs of public transport in this area being only a fraction compared to driving, it's a no-brainer.
Rain, hail or shine, I'm on my bike. And whilst I've written this on April 1, the idea of me with a skateboard is no joke! I have a bigger interest in that now that I ever did before! I would certainly make Thickshake Tanuki very happy!
Either way, there is no way I will be forced into getting another car, if I don't want or need one. No amount of persuading from anyone is going to change my mind.
All I need to do now is quit my day job of more than 5 years, which revolves around cars; mostly pickups/utes and SUVs. Doing so will allow me to escape from my annoying work colleague (or two) who is the definition of a dinosaur!
Thank you for reading.
