EDIT: Just in case this is received the wrong way. It's not my intend to be an ass with this post. I sometimes just like to speak loosely.

Part of my intent with it is that I'm AWARE of the shady shit with Discord. It's been a lil hazy with some of the data-related things already. Them trying to roll out more always raises an eyebrow as to what gains a platform might get out of shit like this. The main thing I worry about as a side-effect, is the fracturing of communities splitting off into all different directions. Variety and alternatives are good to have, but it can be a detriment to some communities when it's spread way too thin, especially on a hasty panic-driven decision. I guess my point would be to slow down a bit, watch the situation and - somehow - figure out what alternatives are viable, get more vibes on the situation and what the community is feeling if a move is to happen. Times change and I've seen chat apps and such come and go over the years, for whatever reason. So I get when sentiments shift on platforms.

I see a lot of talk going around about people starting to flee discord because they want you to face ID yourself and collect more information about you (by the way, they already do this with AI bots being able to read all of your chats, which are plain text, unencrypted, lol). They can see the content of your text chats, they always have been able to. They can see your dirty lil chats. They claim that they don't, but if it isn't encrypted, they could.

I've been aware of all of this and have continued to used Discord anyway, as it has some nice communities that I'm a part of. I donno how I feel about needing to the the lil camera face dance for them when there are other less invasive ways to prove your age, but I know that all this is a silly little dance of "look, we're doing something" about pressure over minors being in suspicious servers, but I also think this is a convenient excuse to roll out stuff like this. "Never let a good crisis go to waste." Anytime data needs to be collected, my assumption is that it will be used to sell you shit, or sold to someone who wants to sell you shit, or just another "safe and secure" vessel to end up with some major breach or leek with a nice big "oops, we're sorry."

This journal isn't so much meant to be about that though, it's more about the resulting panic and people saying they are going different places. I've seen a few names of different platforms go around (Stoat, Matrix, and Fluxer to name 3), and I'm gonna tell ya right now, I ain't downloading like 4 different chat aps to keep up with this as people make hasty panic decisions and fracture every which way. Some of the discord communities I'm in do not seem interested in moving. If discord ends up being replaced generally by a lot of community, and generally collects in of of these other options, I'll likely end up getting it. I'm likely at least stuck on Discord to stay in a couple that seem likely not to move.

I'm staying on Discord for the time being, seems like they backtracked a bit just today by pushing the rollout date to later this year, with some more details and claim they will offer alternatives. Guess we'll see. I'm content to chill and see how this plays out and make a better decision later.
