Kyatto Ninden Teyandee (AKA Pizza Cats) DVD Review

This is the original Japanese series "Samurai Pizza Cats" was made from. SPC didn't translate Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, but rather made new dialogue to fit the animation, which came out damn funny. An SPC DVD set will be released later, but right now this the original KNT on DVD with English subtitles. Never heard of either of these? Well it's furry anime, so if you like furry and anime, you'll probably like this.
The quality of the video is everything I hoped for. Considering when KNT was made (1990-91), this is as good as it gets. There's no point in going blue-ray for a 20+ year old anime made with hand painted cels. For that alone it's worth the price. If not for this set released by Discotek Media, I would have bought the Japanese release DVD set for a higher price with no subtitles and (I assume) limited to my region free DVD player.
The subtitles...they aren't the best, but far from the worst. I know enough Japanese to where I'm frequently catching the little changes and saying to myself "that's not what they said!". But, really it's close enough. If you don't understand much Japanese you'll never notice. You can follow the story, and the subtitles might not be exactly what was said, but it is usually what was meant (or something close). I guess "Teyandee!" can mean "Listen up!" or "Jebus!" depending on the situation, and "Sukashii" does sound like "Skashee".
There was a glitch with the first release where the subtitles on episode 9 shifted one line early, but the affected disc #2 is being replaced by Discotek Media for free to everyone who bought the first release. The DVD set is currently sold out, but it will be back and the second release will have that error fixed.
