Old-school tech and musical dragon new to the fandom. Love the quieter furry gatherings and camping-style events. Squeakies are essential!

Journey or Destination?
This morning I had a conversation discussing the merits of the journey contrasted with those of the destination. The topic of traveling arose as we mentioned our plans for places to visit during vacation time. My friend mentioned that he'd be flying and wished the flight would transfer much closer to his destination but instead he must drive an hour from the airport. To me this was no big deal; I love driving and seeing the sights along the way. It's especially fun to drive with my boyfriend and/or other close friends. So many awesome memories are made on those nice drives.
It seemed to my friend that the idea of having to drive was really quite undesirable... I mentioned I'll be driving to Oregon from Victoria, BC and taking my time to enjoy the journey. The response was total disgust for the idea! Why spend unnecessary time traveling when you can get where you're going faster and be comfortable?
This notion struck me very hard! I often travel just to travel. I'll set out with no destination in mind and just drive for the fun of it and see where I go. Life to me isn't about hurrying to the next place or thing... It's got to have some unknowing and uncertainty... If you've watched NeverEnding Story, try and recall Atreyu's flight with Falkor to the boundary of Fantasia... Falkor doesn't know how far but to him it doesn't matter; they will arrive as he's a Luck Dragon. There's incredible value in this tenet.
Perhaps I'm missing something myself but I pointed out to my friend that I felt he was missing something... There's beauty in both the journey and the destination. There's beauty in the time-out times. It's important to remember that you don't have to fill in every second of every day with getting enough done. You'll always feel like you never get enough done if you think this way. There must be space in between these things for rest, for reflection, for love and dreams, for the space itself even.
I have to say: "To each their own" and I do mean it. But! I hold out hope that we all learn to meet our deepest needs and don't feel like we're running out of time in life. You can make it what you need to for your own self, and be true to that.
