How can I keep Photoshop from changing my colors?

First off: Hi, everybody! */Dr.Nick* Thank you so much for your Favorites, Watches, and Comments! :) I wasn't expecting to get any so soon! o_o
Anyway, for those of you who are familiar with Photoshop CS3, could someone please explain to me how I can make sure that the colors I see within the program won't be altered when I save my files as .jpgs or .gifs? Some of my uploads appear somewhat dimmer than I expected.
I will bake you a cupcake if you can help me. X) Or something. IDK! I should've gone to bed hours ago! Apparently lack of sleep is making me a bit manic WHEEE.
