🩸 Name: Sereth Varn, the Keeper of the Lost Things
Race: Human (formerly)
Class: Warlock (Great Old One/Custom Patron: The Bagman)
Alignment: Neutral Evil
CR: ~12–15 (adjustable for campaign)
đź“– Backstory
Once a treasure hunter obsessed with acquiring magical artifacts, Sereth Varn vanished into a Bag of Holding while trying to retrieve an ancient relic. He emerged decades later — warped, gaunt, and whispering to something inside the dark between spaces.
He now serves the Bagman, a patron that exists in the folds of reality — the forgotten space where lost objects and discarded souls drift. Sereth claims the Bagman whispers secrets from “the underside of existence,” teaching him how to reach through bags, chests, coffins, even pockets — to drag people into the void.
He leads a cult known as The Folded Path, who believe the world’s salvation lies in being “collected” by the Bagman and stored safely away from the chaos of reality.
đź’€ Appearance
Sereth’s body seems stretched and slightly distorted, like he doesn’t fit right in the world. His limbs are too long, his fingers end in dark nails like hooks, and his eyes reflect dimly — like the inside of a leather bag.
He wears an adventurer’s satchel at his side that sometimes whispers back.
When he casts spells, black leather straps and hands made of stitched skin emerge from portals that look like torn seams in the air.
🕳️ Personality
Mantra: “All things are lost in time. I merely help them arrive there sooner.”
Motivation: To open a “Grand Seam” — a rift between the Material Plane and the space of lost things, letting the Bagman fully emerge.
Flaw: Believes everyone and everything eventually belongs to the Bagman — including himself.
🧿 Powers & Abilities
Patron Features (The Bagman):
Expanded Spell List:
1st: Disguise Self, Arms of Hadar
2nd: Mirror Image, Rope Trick
3rd: Hunger of Hadar, Nondetection
4th: Dimension Door, Shadow of Moil
5th: Far Step, Teleportation Circle
Unique Warlock Abilities:
Reach Through the Fold (Recharge 5–6): As an action, Sereth can open a rift to the Bagman’s realm within 30 ft. A spectral hand erupts from a bag, chest, or similar container and attempts to grapple or pull a creature inside (STR save or be restrained and take necrotic damage).
Lost Things Return: Once per short rest, he can summon a swarm of animated objects made of items lost to the void — keys, toys, bones, etc. (use Animated Objects spell).
Whispers from the Bag: He can communicate telepathically with any creature he has physically touched or whose possessions he has taken, no matter the distance — as long as the item remains in his possession.
🧩 Lair: The Hall of Forgotten Things
Sereth’s lair is a massive extradimensional storage hall — like the inside of a thousand Bags of Holding stitched together. It’s filled with impossible corridors, heaps of abandoned items, and flickering torchlight that moves on its own.
Lair Actions (on initiative count 20):
Bagman’s Reach: An arm bursts from a nearby bag or container, grappling a creature (as Evard’s Black Tentacles).
Lost Echo: A whisper of something the PCs have lost taunts them, imposing disadvantage on Wisdom saves until the next round.
Shifted Seam: The battlefield distorts — all creatures must succeed on a DEX save or be displaced 10 feet in a random direction.
🕰️ Hooks & Encounters
Rumor: Bags of Holding across the region begin swallowing people whole. Survivors whisper about “a man made of straps and shadows.”
Mystery: An adventurer finds their Bag of Holding whispering their name at night — Sereth is using it to spy on them.
Climax: Sereth attempts a ritual using hundreds of magical bags to tear open a “Grand Seam,” summoning an enormous version of the Bagman as a shadowy godlike entity.
🧠Tactics
Opens with Hunger of Hadar to control space.
Uses Misty Step or Dimension Door through bags or holes to disorient enemies.
Summons objects or creatures through Animate Objects or Summon Aberration.
Uses Reach Through the Fold to isolate weaker PCs, dragging them toward void portals.

đź’€ TRAITS
Patron’s Presence (Aura of the Bagman)
Whenever Sereth casts a Warlock spell, whispering voices echo in a 30-ft. radius. Any creature that starts its turn in this area must make a DC 17 Wisdom save or take 7 (2d6) psychic damage and be frightened until the start of its next turn.
Folded Form (Recharges on Short Rest)
As a bonus action, Sereth can partially slip into the “space between things.” Until the start of his next turn:
He has resistance to all damage except force.
He can move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain (taking 5 force damage if he ends his turn inside one).
Reach Through the Fold (Recharge 5–6)
As an action, Sereth targets a container (bag, chest, pouch, etc.) within 30 ft. A spectral hand made of shadow and leather bursts forth.
A creature within 10 ft. of the container must make a DC 17 Strength save or be grappled and pulled 15 ft. toward the container, taking 21 (6d6) necrotic damage.
On Sereth’s next turn, he can use a bonus action to crush or drag the target “inside” the Fold (as if banished; Charisma save negates).
Innate Spellcasting (Warlock)
Spellcasting Ability: Charisma (spell save DC 17, +9 to hit)
Sereth has 5th-level warlock spell slots (2 slots). He can cast each of the following spells at will or as shown below:
Cantrips (at will):
Eldritch Blast (+9 to hit, 1d10+4 force), Mage Hand, Minor Illusion, Thaumaturgy
1st–5th level (2 slots, DC 17):
Arms of Hadar
Mirror Image
Hunger of Hadar
Shadow of Moil
Dimension Door
Far Step
Hold Person (as bonus action via invocation)
Counterspell
Eldritch Invocations:
Agonizing Blast: Add CHA mod to Eldritch Blast damage
Repelling Blast: Pushes 10 ft. on hit
Misty Visions: Silent Image at will
One with Shadows: Invisible while motionless in dim light or darkness
Lost Things Return (1/day)
Sereth summons a Swarm of Animated Objects made from discarded items (use Animate Objects).
Objects appear from torn seams in space and attack anyone not “belonging” to the Bagman.
🧠Actions
Multiattack
Sereth makes two attacks with Eldritch Blast or one with Reach Through the Fold and a spell or bonus action ability.
Eldritch Blast
Ranged Spell Attack: +9 to hit, range 120 ft., one target.
Hit: 9 (1d10+4) force damage per beam (3 beams at this level, total avg 27).
Shadow Grasp (Melee Spell Attack)
+9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.
Hit: 14 (3d8) necrotic damage, and the target must succeed a DC 17 Strength save or be restrained by shadowy straps until the end of its next turn.
🕳️ Reactions
Fold Away
When Sereth is targeted by an attack, he can teleport up to 30 ft. into an open container or shadowed area he can see.
If he enters a container (bag, chest, etc.), he emerges from another within 60 ft. as if stepping through the Bagman’s realm.
🕯️ Lair Actions (Hall of Forgotten Things)
On initiative count 20 (losing ties):
Bagman’s Reach: A spectral arm lashes out from a nearby bag; a random creature must make a DC 17 STR save or be restrained until next round.
Lost Echo: The whispers of something a character once owned fill their mind. Wisdom save DC 17 or take 10 (3d6) psychic damage and disadvantage on next attack.
Shifting Seam: The area distorts; all creatures must make a DC 15 Dex save or be teleported 10 ft. in a random direction.
🎠Tactics
Opens with Shadow of Moil and Hunger of Hadar to create chaotic battlefield control.
Uses Dimension Door and Fold Away to stay elusive and unpredictable.
Grapples stragglers with Reach Through the Fold, banishing them one by one.
Keeps his Animated Objects between himself and melee fighters.
If reduced below 50 HP, he’ll attempt to retreat through a Bag of Holding, escaping into the Fold (where he might later return, whispering from inside the party’s own bag).
