No, seriously, this has been kicking around in my head for several months and I really like it, but I have just no fucking clue what to do with it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

It's nice and calm overall, a thoughful and almost bitter / lamenting kind of vibe, very nice. I think the drum pattern is perhaps a little busy (or maybe just a bit heavy on the snare usage) if you wanted it to go down a half-ballad kind of route, but that depends on what sort of vocals you had in mind for it
I think building up into something heavier might be a trifle predictable for this sort of track, I'd be inclined to have a go at dropping the drum and acoustic away into something quiet and spacious - perhaps string led with a stronger vocal over it, get some really nice lyrics out and then bring the drums & guitars back in to turn an 'epic' stand-back-and-go-woah moment back into something with energy and hook to it... if that makes any sense whatsoever...! haha
The alternative is to go sinister and sporadically heavy with it - sorta like Pantera's "This Love" maybe
You've easily got a good foundation there though, keep it up!

I'm hearing the need for a V chord, the I-vi progression kinda leads into it but then never quite arrives. I'd then resolve that deceptively to bVI or like, the major VI. It feels like it's ready to switch keys at this point, or at least have some sort of extended harmony. From there, you could build out a new chord progression and develop the do-fa-mi-la-do theme in that new tonal area.
If you'll believe it, even though I've been playing the guitar (and everything else) for almost 20 years, and writing for at least 15, I actually can't read music to save my life, only tabs, and know theory only by sound, so I have only the slightest idea of what you're saying. lol I know the do-fa-mi-la-do, though!
