Some of these pieces you've posted are quite stunning :) I'm afraid I'm quite ignorant of how graffiti culture works, but I know it's largely illegal here. These pieces look like they took quite some time to do, though, so how would they accomplish it without getting caught partway through?

I'm pretty sure the local council is in on it; it's a known 'trendy and arty' area and they use it to their advantage. It attracts a certain type of people; both who live their and run their businesses there and it seems to snowball onwards. There are some incredibly cool stores and neat apartments along there. There are a lot of street festivals and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they have days where they're allowed to do the artwork. It seems to be a pretty decent community understanding; a sanctioned outlet for this style of art without it being vulgar and crude; it seems to keep itself in check quite neatly.
