Chichen Itza is an ancient Mayan city in Mexico. At its height, it was the most populous city in the world.

It is still a bustling hub of activity, but instead of living and thriving and sacrificing captured warriors to keep the Sun from burning out, Chichen Itza is now full of tourists with an interest in history and architecture, and people willing to sell crappy trinkets to said tourists.

I bought a crappy trinket (Haggled down from $20 to $8) of the Mayan Calendar, which might have been a bit of a rip-off, since being 2013 it no longer works. :C

The Mayans built their cities around underground aquifers, which were created some millions of years ago due to a large asteroid impact; the asteroid many believed caused the dinosaur's deaths.

They had the temple roped off so I was not able to climb the steep steps, but it was wonderful visiting this historic place! <3
