I'm a light lyric coloratura soprano. Did you read about that voice type? XD
I'm glad you looked stuff up though! Lots of people wouldn't bother...Voice ranges and types are just so interesting! (though I fully admit I am a music dork and just might be a little biased)

I didn't read about that voice type, no...
I find that I learn new things all the time by doing different types of art, and the research required to get better accuracy. I do things wrong all the time, too, but that also helps me learn ^.^,
If I weren't an art dork, I would either be a marine biology dork, or a music dork =) Those are the other things I have been interested in in the past...

Awesome! I couldn't choose between art and music so I am an art AND music dork XD

Those are two examples of what kind of songs a coloratura Soprano would sing. Though, my voice type is light so it would be more like the first (though not as amazingly polished as the OUTSTANDING Natalie Dessay! XD)

What you are classified as in a choir isn't necessarily what your voice type is.
Alto actually isn't a voice classification. The closest voices to it are called Contraltos. When it comes to actually studying voice the main voice types you will come across are Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano (which is what most choir "altos" really are), Contralto (which a FEW choir "altos" might be), countertenor, tenor, baritone, bass...In the world of voice alto really doesn't exist as a voice type. It's only used in choir and instrumental terms.

Read up on the term "Alto"...It's really quite interesting ^__^

Was it choir or any vocal ensemble? What it an actual VOICE teacher or no? It worries me a lot if an actual person with their degree in voice said that because that is just not a vocal classification unless they were using the word as meaning the same as contralto. That's really sad if an actual VOICE teacher doesn't even know that *wonders what school they went to*

                    Hmm...that really worries me @_@
Perhaps, since it was a beginning voice class, the teacher figured he would stick to terms people might know from choir and stuff. I sure hope that's what it was...If not then I would question his education...I'm glad he was nice, but it isn't good if he actually thinks of at as an actual voice type.
