You guys know that Guttersnipe is a real word, right? I just mention this because anytime now that someone hears the word "guttersnipe" they turn to me and go "Guttersnipe hur hur" like it's some sort of underground shibboleth. XD

I remember reading Rabalais for the first time -- a goal I thoroughly recommend you avoid, because I never finished it. French literature of the time tend to make Seth McFarlane seem decorous. First of all, I was surprised to discover that Gargantua was the name of a character in one of his novels -- a giant, no less. Weirder, his mother's name was Gargamel. Wait ... Gargamel is a woman's name? A giant woman's name? What was Peyo thinking? Or drinking, more like?
According to Wikipedia, "From the Middle English Ragamuffyn. According to Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable: A muffin is a poor thing of a creature, a 'regular muff'; so that a ragamuffin is a sorry creature in rags." This seems more reasonable to me than a demon. However, ragamuffins likely did appear in Medieval morality plays, so it checks out.
