So the cats outta the bag...or should that be a squirrel and a flareon?
I think this is possibly the first time i've drawn someone out of character. I cant ever imagine zeezee raising his voice, ive never seen him cross in real life and he never has anything bad to say about anyone, but i guess brothers will be brothers and I guess when zeezee was growing up he probably got into all sorts of bickerings.

Yay yay yaaaaaaay! *does a happy dance* I've been holding out hope that Zee-Zee's still alive and well in Gem's world, but I'd been inclining to the theory that he permanently lived in Sleepy Bubbles World nowadays. Unless Rasile means 'find our gravestones' (which I admit is seriously possible), we might be on to a winner here!

The most compelling theory I have is;
Gem's father (who i suspect looks somewhat like Mister Murdock but ... have nothing to confirm that it's just a hunch) got really drunk he destroyed a bunch of stuff belonging to Gem (who he believes possibly correctly? Isn't his daughter) and burned down the house; hence why it looks all charred and blackened and Grub was all broked.
Gem's mum probably doesn't survive the fire, she's makes sure all her kids escape. Even if she does survive, she's a broken shell of a person that's declared an unfit mom and has her kids taken from her.
Yeah neither of those are happy or good places to go to.
Gem, Zee-Zee and Rasile do survive but as they are from a; let's say unstable; home they are all put into the adoption system (the green bangle from the court scene) and things go wrong from there.
Gem being so young doesn't get adopted, she's never had (or more accurately until now can't recall) that caring bonding figure and so keeps lashing out (her anger issues) and remains just out of the foster care system never really being adopted by anyone.
Gem's father, probably survived he's possibly still just in jail depending on the judge but likely has been released within the past 5 years
That's one possibility of what happened so far, and based on what i've read it's a good guess, not a perfect one there's far too many holes to be sure yet.
Now... what's happening.
Well we really have to clutch at straws for this.
Zee-Zee suggests that this has always been here for her (http://www.furaffinity.net/full/6605007/) but that doesn't gel really well with the facts, something has set off this chain of events that enables Gem when she sleeps to get to this ongoing dream.
We know there are rules that gem can't be told (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6068972) and we'll have to see the aftermath (if any rules have actually been broken) in future comics but it is likely the consequence is something will happen in sleepy bubbles world.
Here's where there's an interesting divergence, before the court scene the last time we were in sleepy bubbles Gem was playing hide and seek the next time we get back to what we can only assume is the same place as sleepy bubbles (not the court nightmare, not her memory) time has advanced substantially, we are now on a trip to a beach indicating that there's some external source causing this to happen.
But who... or what that could be... well we'll have to wait and see how much of this pans out.

Well, my head canon is that;
At some point, Jack and Nicole's marriage grew cold and they eventually divorced. At first, the separation was on amicable terms, but after a while, resentment wormed its way into Jack's heart, which only worsened as he started drinking.
Eventually, he grew paranoid, and started suspecting her of infidelity, and even started to question Gem's true paternity. He began harassing her for a DNA test, but she was afraid that he had grown unstable, and refused to hand Gem over to him.
So he started refusing to pay her child support, which, because she had been a housewife previously and was still looking for a job that she could balance with her home life, meant that she had no income for awhile, and before long, she was deep in debt and facing repossession of her recently purchased house (Jack got their old one in the settlement).
Fortunately, some nice (if somewhat shady) men offered to help her with her financial troubles. Unfortunately, these turned out to be loan sharks with ties to organized crime. And when Nicole started to rack up a debt with them, they decided to make a little "foreclosure" of their own.
As it just so happened, just before the hit, Jack paid yet another of his "visits". And after the inevitable fight, as Jack headed back to his place, he discovered a strange hair on his jacket, and quickly realized that it was a strand of Gem's fur. Seeing an opportunity to prove his suspicions once and for all, headed for the nearest clinic and had it tested.
99.9% positive - he really was her father. And with his only excuse for his behavior now gone, all that was left was the harsh realization that he had been acting like a complete a-hole for no reason at all. So he rushed back to her house, hoping he could still fix the bridges that he had burned.
But as he entered the block, he noticed several fire trucks in the area. And when he pulled up, what he saw next left him shocked and horrified - Nicole's house, completely consumed in flames. Panicked, he ran towards the house, only to be stopped by the firefighters, who insisted that he keep his distance for his own safety.
As he looked around, he noticed Gem and her brothers out on the lawn, surrounded by police officers, so he knew that at least they were okay. But Nicole was nowhere to be found, so he questioned the firefighters, but they had yet to find any sign of her. But before he could inquire any further, there was suddenly a loud crack, followed by another, and then several more, and soon the house collapsed with a loud crunch, leaving only a pile of twisted, burning wreckage.
And at that moment, Jack's heart sank. There was no way she could've survived that - she was gone. That was it. No chance to apologize, or even say goodbye. Since then Jack took it upon himself to honor her by taking care of the kids as best as he could, while also trying to avenge her by working to put the men responsible for her death behind bars.
However, his alcoholism was still a problem, and after one slip-up too many, child services came and took them away. And so, once again, he was left with nothing. And as the crushing loneliness, despair, and self-loathing consumed him, his drinking worsened until eventually...he just drank himself literally to death.

I was taking a look through the older comics. FA doesn't make it easy but if you do a Search for "found page toddlergirl" and sort by date it makes it a little easier to browse them. Anyway, I'm really impressed by how dramatically your art has improved over time. Keep up the awesome work, and great story as always. ^^

Woot!!! Another great strip and I was thinking that these two would still exist in the real world if that was a memory. Or at least ZeeZee would exist. Hope Gem finds em alive and well and you know note just a grave stone. I get the feeling as she ended up the system that something not good happened to her and or the family. I'm thinking something not so nice involving the dad.
Oh and did I see up there that you liked Scifi? Woot! Didn't know that. Same here. Though I'd imagine I'm quite the scifi nerd. Oh question. What's your fav Scifi show or aspect of scifi? Me obviously I like things with aliens or alternate universe playing on the "What if?" scenario like with my sauroids. "What if there were some intelligent dinos back then?" ^^

Holy plot twist... now that explains the name of the comic and gem isn't really alone... also, zee zee and rasile having a connection with gem via her dreams so many years after and like this... I have so many questions but I have to leave the next pages for later, it's getting late and I have to sleep ^^;
