the rule of thumb (for humans) is the shoulders should be about 'two heads' wide. so like a half head width worth of shoulders on either side of the head. it obviously gets waived with other species but :O yeah

Hmm ok but females do have less shoulder width on average. I tend to exaggerate that I guess since I've seen a couple rants about people who get this wrong. (along the lines of, no, bigger breasts don't make up for man-sized shoulders).
