A bespoke art doll made using plastic, minky, polymer clay, real chicken feathers from my own flock, velvet, acrylic paint and some other misc materials! He is 6” tall sitting and his wings are 13” across.
He took nearly a month on and off to make, he would have been done in three weeks if it hadn’t been for a late delivery of velvet! One week overdue, I wasn’t happy!
His head was originally sculpted in fimo and then moulded and cast in resin, as were his hands and feet. The feet have had minky attached to them for added realism, took a long time to do but was definitely worth it.
He’s a cute wee guy and had a very rewarding colour-scheme that I had fun painting. The wings were really complex to work out, I spent a lot - a LOT - of time making masks for the wings (they were originally plain white velvet) and getting the details right. As he’s an owl/moth combo I wanted the top half of the wings to look almost like outstretched owl wings. They lent themselves well to the shape of a moth, I was pretty pleased with that heh

oh gosh I love EVERYTHING about this little guy. The design, the craftsmanship, the wings especially! I'm so happy you used velvet instead of just a flat piece of felt. It looks so much more finished, professional, and sleek.
I also love how you did the feet. The shaping on them is perfect, and the minky covering the tops is such a great touch.
I normally don't like feathers on stuff either, but these ones just finish this doll off so nicely!
Lovely stuff. ;u;

Felt didn't even cross my mind, it would have actually been quite a good idea, but doesn't have the texture of a moth wing which was kinda important to me. Moth wings are so fluffy using minky would have been the most ideal solution but it doesn't show detail nearly as well as velvet, so that's what we ended up going for.
Thanks for that comment, it was really nice to read ^_^
