The Long, Hard Winter and the Golden Day
This is another of my older pieces that I occasionally feel compelled to go back and pick at like a scab. This one was written when I was still at the tail-end of my Teen Angst® phase, and it's mostly a metaphorical statement on how I felt every time someone told me to "get a more positive attitude".
The one that sparked it was this insufferable relative that would always say: "Keep your chin up. You may feel like you're in the long, hard winter right now, but the Good Lord knows that the Golden Day is just around the corner!"
Yes, she was one of the ones that always believed that we were living in the End-Times, and the Rapture (i.e. the "Golden Day") was just about to happen.
