Gaidarbek Demontongue, a swamp goblin turned trader turned apprentice turned teacher of the magical arts turned rector/headmaster of a magical academy.
In this particular image of him, Gaidar is around the age of 30 or so years and is getting himself ready for a particularly nice evening filled with dancing, music, and magical high jinks of all sorts.
Have some back story of this delightful yet marvelously stupid (in a good way) character of mine.
A green skinned goblin belonging to the tribe of the Eastern Swamp goblins. After an incident in his childhood where he decided to eat more different colored, magical carrots than was healthy, he suddenly found himself thinking on the level most of the wizards of the realm do. This alone was highly unusual for a goblin of the swamps, but he also chose to become a trader soon after.
Can you imagine that. A goblin. Trading.
Needles to say, he did not manage to gain a lot of income from his trading that involved a hefty dosage of risky decisions, thievery and scams of all sorts. Intelligence gets you only so far.
So what did he do? Well he decided to purchase a tophat, pair of glasses (though he did not really need the said glasses due to the copious amount of carrots he ate that not only enhanced his intelligence but also enhanced his eyesight), and a tonic from one of the mages he once stumbled upon and met in a bazaar of sorts. A tonic which gave him quite lovely moustache that later grew into a proper, thick beard.
Thanks to this new disguise of sorts, he found himself suddenly bathing in riches. Suffice to say that the other traders he had met during his travels and the people he had stolen from did not take kindly to the rumors spreading of a green skinned, tophat wearing business tycoon. Who clearly was a goblin though he kept convincing people that he was, in fact, not a goblin but had a rare skin disorder which he blamed multicolored carrots for.
Gaidarbek, who also called himself Gaidar by now, soon found himself running away after a nice, hot weekend bath which ended in his newly purchased home being burnt down by an angry mob that had discovered where he lived. He did manage to save his clothes, hat and glasses though. And his impressive facial hair.
It should be noted that a goblin who enjoys bathing is highly unusual as well. Yet another, this time proper, side-effect of the multicolored, magical carrots.
Years went by as he tried to find a place that had not heard about his reputation, and finally he stumbled upon a village that was cloaked by a dense cloud of unnatural fog. After spending a while in the village, he tried to leave but could not. Like so many others before him, he had found himself trapped in the village. The fog let people enter, but it did not let them leave the village.
After a series of events, both fortunate and unfortunate, an Archmage stumbled upon the village and found himself trapped as well. Gaidar and said Archmage quickly started to devise an escape plan, for the carrots Gaidar had eaten so many years before had only now started to manifest themselves as magic in Gaidar. Magic that the goblin could use. It was not unheard that a goblin could use magic, but usually this magic came from the two goblin deities. The magic Gaidar possessed, was one of the many reasons why the Archmage had found his way into the village of fog.
And just like that, the Archmage and the swamp goblin turned into a trader turned into an apprentice of the magical arts, did manage to open a portal inside the town which lead to the castle owned by the Archmage. They were the very first people to escape the confinement of the fog surrounding the village. They returned to the village on few occasions however. Said occasions included the foiling of plans of a certain Lich and making sure that the rule of a Draconic creature and a Hobgoblin was not too harsh over the villagers.
Years went by, Gaidar learned to properly control his magical powers, and many grand and not so grand adventures were had by the goblin. He truly was living the time of his life. His impressive facial hairs also grew into a magnificent beard, in such a quantity even that the only thing that reminded the Archmage that his dear friend was a goblin, was when the pointy ears decided to reveal themselves now and again by flopping out from under the tophat of Gaidar.
A time came eventually when the health and age of the Archmage bested him. He became bedbound and nominated Gaidar to become his successor, the next rector, or if you prefer, headmaster, of the castle. For the castle also acted as a magical academy for the young, aspiring mages of the realm. One of the many academies, if not the best, found in the land.
Gaidarbek had acted as a teacher for some years prior to the Archmage becoming ill, but promised that he would not let his old friend down.
After reaching the age of 80 years, an impressive age for a goblin with just as impressive beard and intelligence, Gaidar continues to have the most extraordinary adventures while he also manages to maintain the integrity and high standards of the academy that now belongs to him.
