yeah those are kind of my thoughts as well, but at TFF I wore my jaden paci badge and a certified cub badge from marymouse and no one gave me any trouble over it ^_^ It was really neat! I actually had a few people ask me if I was a cub/babyfur and I got to make some friends :D
I was terrified! Texas furry fiesta was my first convention, of ANY kind, but I went to the dealers den and I didnt see much I actually wanted to buy, and then I found mary mouses table. I was looking through all of her certified badges...and I found a few I liked, but then I saw teh certified cub one..not too big, but..it gets the point across. And I got so happy because I felt like we were noticed ^_^ it kind of helped make me feel like I did have a place at the con. So..I got it, and realized it might have been a mistake, I was scared to draw attention to it, but I didnt have to! Multiple people approached me. I was very very surprised! I even had an artists at the artists alley ask me in front of lots of people. I was embarassed and thougth she as going to be mad or mean to me, but she said she loved babyfurs and lil's and cubs. Some of the people afterwards came by and ruffled my har or patted my back. Blew. My. Mind. lol
Im sure it will change from con to con, but Ill end up in teh cub hub most of the time anyways Im sure so, Im not too worried about it. And the few furends I have all know and accept me as a babyfur. I guess I have a bit more support than I thought!

Not to force it on ya or anything..but opening up about my babyfur side at the con, really made my experience. It took some coercion, but in the end, haters gonna hate ^_^ maybe you can get something small too to start and just gauge how people react?
