Awhile back I was asked to do some illustrations for the publication of "Waterways," a novel by Kyell Gold. It's the bittersweet story of a Kory, a young otter, who is surprised to find himself falling in love with Samaki, a handsome black fox he meets at the public pool one day. The book will be available at Further Confusion this month, or afterwards from the Sofawolf web site at www.sofawolf.com.

I like how the otter is sort of drifting aimlessly in the pic looking up submerged in the water like he is just floating along looking worried and a bit confused as if he's trying to parse something. Brings to mind the thought "life is what happens when you least expect it."
I like it a lot is speaks to me about how this otter feels and where he is coming from. Further the fox amuses me all faced down like that... he has no idea what he is getting into *chuckles*
Overall very cool there and it keeps that light fun touch you bring to your work which really draws me in. I'll really enjoy this book I think if the cover is any indication.

Thanks for the insightful critique. :) I'm happy to hear that actually ... one of the themes running thru the story is that water is Kory's one retreat he uses to try to escape from his problems, so I'd hoped this image would convey that idea, in addition to being a literal event that takes place right about the beginning of the story.

yeah I think you got his pathos that he is trying to deal with in the water nicely. It looks really good and as always well drawn. Glad I nailed the theme you were trying to reach. It helps that you did a good job and your facial expressions are so spot on. It is never easy drawing that look of insecurity. I really have to get better about commenting on your stuff...

The story is amazing. It was posted on YiffStar, and I believe it was one of the longest stories I have read online. It's damn good, though I won't be able to go to FC, I will definitely buy it. Anyone who have never heard of it, read it, it is just absolutely amazing.

a friend of mine let me borrow this book. I just cant put it down (except to get my daily dose of FA) I love the story. and the artwork has made me care about the characters just that more. you made me wanna snuggle with Sumaki myself. great story complimented perfectly with great artwork. i will be buying this book myself furst chance i get.
