It's amazing how you captured from so many angles the struggles of your characters in this one short piece. I think you maybe skimped out on some potentially enjoyable stories-within-stories, but what you've left us is nevertheless moving and charming. :)

There are always so many potential paths with something this short. The temptation to gallup off on any one of them risks defeating the purpose of the exercise for me.

Seriously, I'm doing these prompts to resharpen skills that have been dulled through lack of use. That lack is mostly from apathy due to my inability to finish anything of any real length.

Thus, short is good. For now, anyway.

Being a Nebraskan, I wonder where they tried to live...some parts of it would be more accepting than others, but usually the Nebraskan way of life is "Mind your own business, and assume your neighbors know what they're doing unless they ask you for help."

I don't live there now, maybe it's changed since I've been gone..but I doubt it. Things don't change very fast away from Lincoln and Omaha.

Interesting. Very good little piece, I enjoyed reading this. Many levels in this one. The anecdote is interesting and as a whole the story is very charming. Great work.
