Missed the deadline for the Dragon World ArtOrder Challenge (not having a specific EST/PST timestamp made it hard to guess when the deadline actually was)... but either way, it was a fun piece to work on. :D
Nidhogg was a dragon in Norse mythology, and some versions I've read have him as a corpse-eater (as well as gnawing on the roots of the Yggdrasill tree when he was tired of that, etc). In this version he's nearly blind from living in the dark — although with constant war in the realms above, food isn't so difficult to find he'd need sharp eyes.
If I had more time I'd want to paint him in a maze of bone catacombs. An interior decorator, he is not. D:
Roughly 4-6 hours, Photoshop.

Love this. It'll definitely stick out against the norm with your technique, too!
As beautiful as the structures and image is, I feel like the image is lacking context. Your description is steeped in research and culture, but the few strands on the corpse are the only hints I have to that.

Thank you! c:
Yeah, I wish I could have pushed it further than I did (just... time. Ahh! Why did I even try to do something in a weekend when I'm busy?). Context must be pushed for next time, thanks for mentioning that! I'd love to paint a "proper" 40-hour adventure-in-painting with him sometime... maybe with a hapless human trapped in his catacombs. And therefore not just a boring portrait with a corpse, lol. :B

I really love the shading, lighting and depth you put into this piece. Including the research that you put into this 'beast.' Down to the grim look, to the aging gold, to the runes that you have etched into his face. I must be a fangirl in saying this, but this is one of my favorite pieces of yours, because it is Norish mythology.
