I've been looking for and looking forwards to doing some atmospheric shots that can convey the stark still cold of a sunny mid-winter's day, finally got my chance! This was only the second sunny day this winter so far. It's going into deep-freeze temperatures now though (-20 daytime, -30 night) so it looks like I'll have lots of great opportunities to work this site (sunny days = COLD up here of course). This scene is looking up-river from this set of locks which controls (some of) the water-flow between lakes Winnipeg and Manitoba. A panorama shot of course. The original ended up being 10,000x1,750 of which this is a 6,700x1,700 crop! Such a nice slow fade to the sharp tree branches.

I'm sure I could spend a lifetime roaming there and otherwhere's. I thought of you the minute I saw these on the comp. Would like for you to use em as you will. Man, you wouldn't believe what's in the pipeline here. Holding back from posting a flood of pics, and finding the best of the best is excruciating.
Are you kidding? We burn a lot of wood when it's below -30 at night! It was 2-3 times what we'd go through at a regular -10 to -15 or so and there's a real cold gradient from the floor up. I had to switch to patching insulation there for a few days, toss in some band-aid solutions for things that were on the list so to speak.
