i have a friend at work that makes fictional mission p attaches for various events around the office. she more recently made one for a friend of mine. I decided i would ask her to do a standard for my home brew Warhammer 40K army know as the Darlean First.
a quick rundown of the simbles on the standard,
Blue and white representing Darlea itself. when the crusade came to the primitive world around 400 M36 Darlea was the only nation to agree to acsept the Emperor of man, thus the Imperium uplifted them technologically and they whipped out all other nations and tribes.
The Aquila representing loyalty to the Imperium. the Aquila is gold further representing the light of technology brought to them by the grace of the Emperor and the Machine God.
The Aquila is surrounded by 4 white stars representing the four core worlds of the Darlean system. the largest of which is the civilized world of Darlea (Darlea III), the two smaller stars represent the hive world of Darlea IV and the Agro world of Darlea II. the star above the double head represents the forge world of Darlea V and its star is place between the heads of the Aquila representing the balance between the Adeptis Machanicas who operates and cares for the word and the Systems Imperial Government whom governs it.
at the bottom is the slogan of the Regiment.

yes, I'm still new to this so I'm not immune to mistakes. chances are the world combination will change before i formalize it as i learn more about the mechanics of the Imperium. i decided 3 plants (as with our soler system) lay in the habitable zone. only the original world was habitable nateraly (or its possible that it was terraformed some point during M21 records are lost and the fossil record suggests that the world was reduced to primitive tribes around M27).
The following are extracts from Sandy Mitchell's "The Emperor's Finest", a Warhammer 40K novel;
From interesting places and tediouse people: A Wanderer's Waybook, by Jerval Sekara, 145.M39
"Serendipita is well named, for it does indeed come as a delightful suprise to the warp-weary Traveller; A small constelation of habitable worlds, though, it must be said, with a varying degree of comfort, orbiting a single gas giant of quite prodigious size."
"Should it's charms pall, however, the other moons of this singular primary are also worth visiting, with the exception of Tawren, the industrial center of this curiouse conglomeration...."
Thus proof that you're going to find multiple habied worlds, but unlikely to find so many primary function worlds in a single system.

thanks for this! your help is appropriated as always.
what i was going off of when i made the decision was a graphic i was given in my Astro class. our system (known as Sol) has 3 worlds that fall in our stars habitable zone (with some debate as to weather Venus actually dose) hypothetically, if you were to terraform Venus and Mars our star would have 3 habitable worlds.

Oh yes, that's spot on. The thing is though, Forgeworlds tend to be few and far between, and are, well, messy. If there's one in a system, you can guarntee that every other world will have been strip-mined or close to to supply the raw materials for the forges.
That's not to say that they're rare, there's thousands of them, it's just that there are millions of worlds. You're more likely to find that one world in a system had become a mechanicus shrine world, and forms the function of low-importance manufacture to support an agri-world and local guard formations, as well as provide munitions for the forces of the emperor, and would be supporting a few void stations that would be maintaining the SDF (System Defence Fleet) and ships passing through. Given the some-what protracted nature of the campain you describe in the back-story, I think that a shrine world fits.
My advice would be to read one of the Ciaphas Cain books, or the first omnibus, "hero of the imperium", as that'll give you a good idea of some of the fun things you can do with a planet, especially when naming systems (My favorite still stands at the Sodallagain system, so named for, obviouse reasons....)

Looks good to me! Will you be able to fit that on a banner?
Was Darlea V always a Forge World? Those are settled and run more or less independently from the Imperium by the AdMech, so it wouldn't surprise me if the techpriests ignored what was going on on Darlea III and IV.
I'm guessing that Darlea III feeds Darlea IV and V, while Darlea IV provides the labor for Darlea III and V, and Darlea V provides all the technology to make it all work?

thats the basic idea.
Also Darlean "Governance" of the forge world is largely symbolic. Darlea V is nearly completely independent of the system hierarchy, however the Adepts Mechanics are largely responsible for the tech required to keep the system viable and there for are included under there flag.
Darlea II serves mostly as a farming hub to sustain Darlea III and IV
Darlea III is mostly the Governmental and cultural center of the system with limited farming and localized industry. also the Guard academy is located here.
Darlea VI is the labor hub of the system and thus operate most of the factories and other operations to maintain viability and meet tithe requirements.
Darlea V is the tech center and provides the industrial base and tech knowhow to make all the worlds function.
