Here is an updated look at how Riley is coming along!
I took her to Further Confusion 2013 in a half-finished state (avert your eyes I'm naked!) so I could show off the foamwork and she got a lot of reactions from it. It was also a great test run to determine how the suit would hold up and perform. The biggest goal besides obvious promotion for my work and business was to show others how a suit is put together. I wore a sign on my back that said "What brings a character to life? Come talk to me about suit design and get a sneak peak at what happens behind the scenes in creature costume construction!" I became a walking panel and an visual aid for panels I attended that weekend, which has led me to the idea of keeping her in a half-finished state for panel demonstrations. I'll be making a second version that I'll finish.
Sorry for ruining the magic! |D

Yeah, spray adhesive is kind of annoying to work with but would be more ideal for large, flat pieces of foam. (And I agree, don't use 77, there's better kinds out there XP)
The leggings are thick enough and the hot glue spread thin enough that I don't have any leaking through to where I could feel any discomfort or scratching. You can't even tell!

Haha, glad you think so! :DD
I unfortunately have a family vacation that overlaps with the dates for AC this year! Otherwise I would be going, I've got people left and right trying to drag me down there... :C but unless vacation plans change for some reason, I'm going to have to try for next year. And THEN I'll bring her down like this :>

Would it be too much to ask for one day a tutorial in how to make them type of tails? Or if one made where i could find it?
I have a long roo tail im wanting to make that would look cool with a sway to it, rather than it be stiff.
*stares at suit* so interesting how the skeleton looks.
I totally cant wait to see it all finished!

At the moment the tail is in super prototype mode- this was something I threw together in an hour or two to try to get a little movement out of it. While the movement ended up being great, the wire core tends to bend out of place easily and I know with the weight and constraint of the fur covering, it'll kill all movement it once had. It's very bouncy and wiggly and a blast to wear as is but it'll take some time to work out the many kinks. As far as I know, I'm the only one who's made a tail like this.
What I currently have for this tail would not work with something much larger than it, so a roo tail is out of the question. It would need a completely different structure altogether to give it good movement. You can still get great movement out of long tails with no cores, just take a look at my Shadow Lugia tail: http://youtu.be/RIAe2_kEk5k?t=3m5s Granted, this means it has to drag on the ground, but roos tails do that anyways. Just have to be careful about getting it dirty.
I'm working on a raptor tail that will have a segmented core- so it'll be held off the ground but with a wiggly motion. Haven't started on it yet but it's in the works!
Glad you like Riley so far!

Also, if you were curious to see how the tail moves, I have a video up now! http://youtu.be/Zbd6C2TtGNI
oh wow thank you
hmm it has a nice bounce but it looks like if some weight was to be put on it, it would take the bounce out of it.
Not sure *shrugs* still really cool to look at.
And as for the lugia tail reff, you did use just a simple fabric in a tail shape then stuff it?

Thank you! I came up with the idea to do legs like this when I made my Shadow Lugia a few years ago- it's performed well for me.
I want to stuff the tail as minimally as possible, however the weight of the fur and constrains it'll bring to the movement will be a challenge to overcome in this tail design. I have a long ways to go before I figure out a solution for it.

ever since i got this clear vinyl material to try and use to make inflatable bladders for huge tails (still trying to figure that part out)
i thought of like...those see-through fish...crossed with a fox~ so the "body" was transparent and inside was a foam skeleture of a fox!
this ,however, fails before it begins when one realises that the inside of the vinyl will fog up from the performers body heat...but still...glowing red eyes and you got some weird fog-filled fox ghost thing!

Thank you very much for your compliments! I've found a lot of benefit to shaping foam this way- it's easier to keep the two legs symmetrical because it requires a lot of free-hand sculpting to smooth everything out, so cutting the strips beforehand from a pattern I made sets me up to work from a smart place. I highly dislike the triangle chunk legs more suits have, it just doesn't ever look right to me. Legs have muscles and form from all sides/angles and the triangle block pieces on only the front and back of the legs just can't capture that feel quite right- ESPECIALLY when the actor is moving.

Dear god Riley, I believe you have solved the eternal fursuit problem of unweildly marshmallow legs. Just fantastic construction. I can't wait to see the finished product!
P.S. I will definitely have my wasp mask and wings done (And maybe even the entire thing if some cards fall right cashwise) and I'm dragging Jordie to RMFC with me so we could all run around on stilts. :D
