On Saturday the 12th my sheltie Ginger passed away. She was 13 years old and grew up with me like a sister. She's been having trouble for a while now, but the past week was terrible and it was finally time to let her go. She had a couple strokes we think, and she couldn't walk, eat, drink, go to the bathroom or do anything by herself... and she was crying all night long.
It was the hardest decision I have ever had to make, as most of it fell on me. I've been taking care of her the past few years, taking her to the vet and thankfully Dr. B gave her a couple more yeras than we thought we'd have with her. I couldn't stand to see her struggle anymore.
So I'm uploading my favorite picture of her. It's from 2003 when she was out in the snow... she looks so beautiful and so cute with the snow on her nose... she always did that.
Rest in peace Ginger, I will always love you.

she is a gorgeous dog, and looks like she was a great companion. i am sorry for your loss, and hope you are doing ok, and grieving in your own way. it is too bad that you had to let her go, but sometimes it is for the best, especially if you said she was suffering.
take care.
take care.
You know, that just confirms my suspicions. I have yet to see a herding dog that didn't love/eat/fling snow.
My sheltie used to do that too. And now my border collie goes silly every time she plows into it.
Lucky for you, though, since you had 13 years with your baby. My time with Jazzy was cut short three years ago when she got lost.

Oh, sweetheart. :( I'm so, so sorry. You know I'm always here for you if you need someone to talk to. I know how much you loved her and I know she had an amazing life with you around to give her all the love she could have ever wanted. She's in a better place and out of pain now, looking down on you and thanking you for giving her the best life she could have ever hoped for. I love you, Jolyn. <3
Jolyn,
I'm so very sorry to hear that. I often find it difficult to cope with the fact my beloved Rotty Matilda will be going soon and I often can't seem to contain my anxiety over this fact. I'lost sleep, work, and general health being sure she's enjoying her bit of time she has left.
I can't help but hope you can recover and that I'll be praying for you. Be sure and understand, when time comes for us, our loyal, dependable, and dearest friends will be waiting for us with open paws and uncontrollable tail wags. You'll see her again, and she'll always be there with you.
Be happy that you had time with her, and remember how much she brightened your days while you were blessed to have her.
*hugs tight* If you need to talk or anything call me :)

I'm sorry to hear of your loss - as a Sheltie owner myself I agree they are wonderful companions and such sweet dogs. I guess at least you can take some small consolation that Ginger isn't suffering any more, and that she had such a full life with you. *hugs*
