I use Blender. ouo Which is, and has always been free. I've been playing with the cycles rendering engine for the past year, which is WORLDS better than the old blender internal engine that I used for so many years before that.
Blender isn't the easiest program to learn (and believe me I know since I'm a self-taught), but it's by far the most satisfying thing when you know you managed to learn how to use it. xD

Haha, nice! Getting ambitious I see~
Some of Escher's drawings are optical illusions, and thus they are impossible to create in reality. The best you can do in 3D is to fake it sometimes. However, if you're talking about perspective, you may have to alter the camera to display an extreme perspective, render it, then crop it so that it displays the way you want. C:

I used cycles which is now integrated into Blender. ouo I typically model using Blender 2.49 to make all the geometry and then open it in the newest version cuz I model much faster in the older version.
My tastes in design usually call for a lot of playing around with lines... which is what I love so much about tron. You can use it to guide the viewer's eyes, point out what's most important, and organize the space into a kind of flow... It's a technique that takes time and experience to use correctly, and I'm still experimenting with it... far from perfect. But... Someday I wanna design my own house like that. ouo

Very cool, I've never used cycles but it looks gorgeous here! Ahh I do love Blender, I started learning it right before 2.5 came out, so the new interface was easier for me, but I hear many longtime Blender artists prefer the older interface too.
Your study of it shows, this is a strong piece! Hehe, I also love tron (: Hope they make a sequel.

SAME. OuO Oh my god it's so pretty. Have you ever seen the original tron movie from the 80's? It helps you understand the newer movie by a lot. xD
Also... I've used Blender since I was very young, so... Naturally I've learned as I've grown, and I never really got used to the clunky new interface. xD It's just too slow for me, and I work almost exclusively on key commands. When it comes to modeling, usually the program has a hard time keeping up.

Yep! I watched it before seeing the new movie, and I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much if I hadn't! Going from the bikes in the old movie to the sequence when they're called for in the new movie - it was amazing the first time I saw that sequence!! Having the lines all appear and light up, just fantastic stuff. And daft punk made the experience all too perfect xD
Yeah, I know that they changed a lot of the hotkeys in 2.5 for some reason and it slowed a lot of the longtime Blender users down. I can't remember, is there a way to change the interface back to what it was? Are we still unable to map our own hotkeys? If they allowed users to do that it would fix the interface problem ><

I think you can map your own hotkeys now (not sure), but I REFUSED to slow down. xD I just dual-wield and keep the production line going. I have every version of blender going back to 1.3 days. ...and I keep them all on a local server, and carry only the more recent versions and 2.49 with me everywhere I go. ouo
I built a renderfarm. Back in the early 2.5 beta days, they were experimenting with a netrender feature, which I use on the server array I built...
