Captain Alexsandyr Troutnoodler, of the Imperial Lontran Space Rescue Corp. Commanding officer of the Imperial Lontran Deep Space Rescue Tug, Salmonidae. Currently retired.
Life is funny, sometimes?
They say that life is what happens while you're making other plans. For Alex, life gave him and his crew a knock-down, no-holds-barred battle with a battle cruiser full of pirates. It wasn't a fair fight, but the Salmonidae was a rescue tug. She was meant to fly into debris fields and rescue survivors, so she was built like a tank, even if her weapons weren't.
After keeping the pirates busy long enough for reinforcements to arrive, the Salmonidae took a direct hit from a missile. Rescue tug or not, inertia is still the law of the universe, and something had to give. That something was a structural support, and it sheared off his legs at the knees while he sat in the captain's chair.
The road to recovery was long. Because of his mixed heritage, they couldn't perform a genetic graft and regrow his legs, so he opted for artificial legs. They served him well for the rest of his career, and he retired as a full captain.
But retired or not, missing parts of yourself or whole, you can't stop moving. You can pause to make repairs, you can slow down a little to catch your breath, but never stop moving.
Keep on moving, don't stop; no? Keep on moving, don't stop.
