I'm thinking along the lines that they all knew each other since they were fairly young, making their connection to one another very strong. They usually seemed to be so different from everyone else and often did their own thing, so they decided to make their own little group together to be like "outcasts". He's kinda like their leader of the group and despite looking real aggressive here, he's actually quite the nice fellow when he wants to be :) He's just real over protective of his friends to no end and will often be the first voice to be heard in their group if someone tries to mess with them. They're like his family to him :)
