Music to welcome Spring -1- The Young Shepherdess - Madrigal
"Io mi son giovinetta
"I am a young woman,
E rido e canto alla stagion novella,"
and I laugh and sing for the fresh season."
Cantava la mia dolce pastorella,
Thus sang my sweet shepherdess,
Quando subitamente
When suddenly
A quel canto il cor mio
To that song, my heart
Cantò quasi augellin vago e ridente:
Spread its wings and sang in all lightness and joy:
"Son giovinetto anch'io
"I am also a young man,
E rido e canto alla gentil e bella
And I rejoice and sing in the gentle and beautiful
Primavera d'amore
Springtime of love
Che ne' begl'occhi tuoi fiorisce." Ed ella:
that blossoms in thine beautiful eyes." And she:
"Fuggi, se saggio sei," disse, "l'ardore;
“Fly if you are wise," she said, "The fire;
Fuggi, ch'in questi rai
Flee, that in these eyes
Primavera per te non sará mai."
Spring for you shall never be!”
~ Guarini - Sig. d'India ~
It's almost spring! The time to sing joyous songs is now.
This is a recording by my old ensemble - I hope you enjoy!
Please leave all comments on the difficulties of courting and the dangerous passions of love below.

Mr. Shepherd, one does not simply pick up every girl one sets eyes on. Sometimes they're the devil incarnate. =/

Oh, it's quite difficult, especially if you're going to be super strict about it.
Music like this takes a few liberties with those rules (by approaching parallel fifths by contrary motion and other exceptions you've probably learnt), also, all the voices seldom sing simultaneously! (Here, at least)
Thank you!!! =D

Indeed, but from what I read, most were performers, not composers! Much of the street music was written down though; http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10098490 this piece has many of the melodies that you'd hear on London's streets, mixed with an accompaniment, but the melodies and words are the original unaltered songs!
I love it... I was reading George Orwell and his account of living on the streets in London (I think in the 1930's) and my mind always goes to the street artists who draw on the sidewalk in chalk. He said usually they were adept at doing only one particular piece of art but every day they would go out and draw it all over again with a hat upon the sidewalk for any donations.
and now I shall go listen...
