Practice - The Snarly Digger

So I seriously love the Prologue of Watership Down (I never saw the movie though, I just saw the prologue because I loved the animation), and decided to TRY to recreate the style.
...I think I suck at recreating or imitating styles in general.
Anyways, first try was me trying to handle what the fuck I was looking at.
Second try was more in a zuni-ish side, yet keeping the concept of the Prince of Rabbits.
I totally did a random american badger at first, in order to see if I can later do Elarin in this style (and probably some friends as well, just to practice).
And yeah, american badgers actually have stripes on their backs...they are more like thin strokes of dark color, really. Also reddish tail...just to give it a really strange hint.
Any suggestions/recommendations of what should I look more into in order to get this style better/critiques are MORE than welcome! :)
